Parkway - Derby VW Garage on Pride Park.

GTI or FR - hard to compare, I prefer the GTI obviously but the FR is good value for money without a doubt. I wanted something a little more - how do I put it - 'refined' this time round after having 2 Mk1 Leons. All depends on your budget I suppose. If the Cupra had DSG then I would have been very tempted.

Thanks, it was at SEAT Derby that I'm going to test drive the TFSI.
I guess I should pop over to VW and test the GTI while I'm there - see if the £4000 is worth it!

yeah u might aswell give the gti a try, it will give you more testing time, but you probably find them not too dissimilar.

its a nice litte comparison actually and does leave you wondering what the extra 4k is for. ive got my opinion of a few bits and pieces here and there, but it doesnt anyway you add it come up to 4k's worth. kinda puts a smile on us leon drivers knowing we got a better car for so much less. im not saying the golf isnt a good car but just put a golf and a leon next to each other for a start ;)

Get the FR TSFI DSG!!!!

I have to say myself and the other half have put a deposit on a new FR TSFI DSG.

I thought it was the best out of itself and the Golf, however, the drivers display on the Golf is more attractive and the inside of the Leon is quite plain, but there are way more options as standard on the Leon.

The DSG gearbox is awesome and was easy to get used to (as I'd never driven an automatic before). The paddleshifts were in a great position as even with my small hands I could reach them whilst holding the wheel and of course there is the novelty factor!!!

When you put your foot down it is fast and in sports mode it goes like (don't know if I can swear or not, but you get the pic). The only hothatch I've driven which is a good bit faster is the Focus ST but it's way too neddy!

Aye so go get one, you won't regret it :D

Just had my 24 hour test drive....

So it finally happened, after a 3 week wait I had my 24 hour test drive (well 26 to be precise).
The dealer (Derby) were excellent, no hard sell just here's the car - enjoy.

Overall the car was fantastic!! Much better than I had imagined.
The engine is wonderful, always eager for fun but also happy to potter around town or cruise on the motorway.

The DSG gearbox is superb!!! Gear changes were smooth, quick and responsive.
Then put it in Sport mode and it's a different car again, holding the revs all the way to the red line.

I found the ride VERY firm and at some points crashy but then I'm used to a very comfortable 4x4. I understand that the trade off in a harsh ride is the top notice handling and grip. After a few hours I was more than used to the ride and welcomed every corner.

The car had only done 900 miles but had quite a few rattles already: the front passengers door speaker and somewhere near the parcel shelf also on the passengers side.

So come replacement time I think I will be going for a hot hatch and at the moment the Leon FR TFSI DSG is in pole position.
I'll try the Golf GTi DSG next ...............

And there is the clincher, I suffer no rattles or squeaks whatsoever on my Lexus, a new car with rattles is not for me. Mine is quiet, very quiet. At 70mph I can't hear the engine, or wind, just road noise from the tyres.
I think I would miss the toys anyway, and as for power, I have the 928 for that.

Thanks for your input, but when I replace my Lexus it will most likely be with a...er...um Lexus

I suffer no rattles at all and i dont think an FR TFSI DSG-hothatchbuyer chooses between a Lexus IS 220d and the Seat 2.0T dsg. Completely different cars and different pricetags.

Pagnobito,
Good luck with the Lexus diesel. I was a big fan of VAG diesels (I still am) until the test drive of the Leon FR DSG.
I'm very much with DSG-boy on this one.
Chalk and cheese, in my opinion.
If the Leon FR DSG does not excite you just a teensy, weensy bit, then you have made the right decision by choosing the Lexus.
