alrite guys,

just wandering what spark plugs you guys are using on your leon cupra's?
my car is revo'd so would I be best sticking with standard plugs or different plugs?

I take it when changing the spark plugs its best to do one at a time, if you take all the plugs/coil packs off dont you have to put them back in a firing sequence?

any help and advice would be appreciated, best place to get the plugs.

I use NGK Platinum laser spark plugs.. I believe these ones are the ones that SHOULD be used at service intervals etc (IE what SEAT put in).....

They work fine for me - I believe they last longer than irridium ones...

yes id advise using platimum plugs

also, yes it makes sense to do one at a time as then you wont get the wrong firing sequence.

Thought it might be the easier option as had probs before, I would not know the firing sequence anyway:confused:

so platinum plugs are the way to go then, anyone know of the cheapest place to buy?

cheers

just been doing some reading about various spark plugs and tuned cars, from the information I have read it says if you have a tuned car you would be better running slightly colder on the spark plugs, I assume that the denso irridium spark plugs achieve this.

This most probably means that the spark plug will last longer then spark plugs running at higher temps, the spark plug companies say it is best to ask the tuning company what they would recommend, in my case this would be revo, maybe revo kev could give some advice on this one.

thats correct, i still maintain that the denso irridum ik22's are the ones to go for. they run colder. when i tuned i ibiza 20vt i did some research on it and found alot of the 1.8t tuners used these. i put them in and had no problems. im not saying you will have probs with the others, just saying about what ive used in the past. its your money, take ya choice. you wont have made a "wrong" choice with either type.

copra,

you have a leon cupra with revo, is that right?

where did you get the spark plugs from mate, I have looked on the opie oils website and they list the leon with a different code, not Ik22?

thanks!

no the engine on my leon is standard as you like....

the spark plugs they suggest for a seat leon cupra are not ik22s

HOWEVER

i (and many other people) were advised to get IK22s for a remapped 20vt engine (regardless of which car it is fitted to) as they are better suited.

Cant remember where i got mine from. find somewhere that stocks DI plugs, and order 4x IK22 ;)

just reading the instructions on the Ik22's and they say to do them up hand tight then 1/4 - 1/2 turn, has anyone got any handy tips for fitting the plugs as never changed them on my leon before, did get myself a draper flexi t-bar spark plug wrench today, gonna fit these tomorrow.

i fitted bosch super 4 plugs yesterday (less than 20 quid in your local halfrauds), the coilpack connectors and leads are all a specific length do you can get it wrong, you need to disconnect the coilpack forst before you pull them out (except maybe the furthest on on driver side).
i removed them one at a time, put a little copper grease onto the thread and fit it into the socket and turn it anticlockwise for a turn just to make sure you are getting it in fluch before screwing it in. again i start the car each time i replace a plug so any issues are apparent straight away rather than wondering which one may be causing the problem.

the t bar might not be long enough matey, for a cheap toolkit thatll last a good while buy the 19.99 socket set that comes in the black case, it has the right sparkplug socket etc included, ive used mine i dont know how many times for jobs in the car and house and cant break them.

Hi mate,

the t-bar might just do it, will take the coil pack out tomorrow and compare before I take the draper out of the packaging, I just hope I dont over tighten it.... ouch!!

is it worth getting a torque wrench do you reckon?

cheers

*edit* copper grease? where can I get this?

no, i tightened it with two fingers until i felt pressure (it goes from loose to tight in half a turn) then give it a little nudge round another 1/4 to 1/2 a turn, the saying goes, "tights tight"
