Once I have 4wd and 300bhp+ on a wet road one morning and the S3 suddenly comes on booste going round a roundabout I will thank my lucky start the car sat and didnt light up the front tyres and plough forward into another car/kerb.

At the end of the day - for power hungry application the S3 is better, will I ever own one? Probably not. Even if I had the money would I buy a S3 over an LCR????? Nah, probably not, couldnt justify the extra cost.

BUT - the fact still remains I would prefer an S3 as it would suite my situation better... both from a power hungry point a view and the class assiciated in my line of work with an A3 over a Leon.

if you invested £24000 would you want to risk dabbling with 300+bhp?
are you in sales? ;)
why not prove your colleagues preconceptions about class wrong

Sales indeed

I know I know. BUt I see loadz a top clients... and I do need to make an impression.

Anyways... if I was to invest that money - I would wait till the motor was tired, then re-build with 350+ in mind. If I can afford one in the first place - I should manage an engine re-build :)

For what an S3 cost plus a couple of grand on getting the motor upto 350Bhp+, Why not just Get an EVO5 or 6?

At least they were designed for 300+ Horses, twaek one of them and your looking at 400 GG's quite easily :)

I know which one I'd rather Have ;)

BTW: Just been reading about a company developing a turbo kit for the R32.......now wheres my chequebook:devil:

I can assure you that if you leave the ESP on you will not be ploughing into anything! 300BHP or not.

I have given mine some real abuse in the wet and dry and it never fails to amaze me how good it is. It is tail happy if you lift off mid-corner:D

A 4WD car will not corner any quicker wet or dry!
What you have to do is learn not to put to much power down when coming out of a corner. 4WD cars can pretty much plant there foot when coming out of corners.

I had a look at the S3 before buying my Ibiza, but I'd have had to have bought a really old one, and I couldn't really justify it.

I'd go with the S3 because it has 3 doors :p

Seriously, though, if money was no object, S3 all the way. In real life, LCR is a better buy.

I have had both and to be honest for the £8K difference the S3 is not that good. The handling is wooden, the 18" wheels at £1500 more, and it is much heavier than the LCR. I am genuinly astiunded by the LCR and think the hadinling and ESP system should be a lesson to Audi.

I spent so long looking for a nice LCR that I'd saved up enough cash for an S3. I've driven both and personally think that the S3 is better all round car, not worth the extra cash when bought from new but definitely when buying second hand (of course i'd say that as i've got one!). The interior of the S3 is undoubtedly better, a much more solid feel and looks far better than the LCR. As for performance, we live in a rather wet and damp England, this definitely suits the S3's 4x4, there's nothing like flooring it in the wet and just flying forwards! The LCR probably would probably catch up around 70-80, but how often do you race to this speed apposed to standing starts in the UK? When it comes to looks, imho the LCR looked much better but now looks a little dated, especially from the rear. The S3 never looked as good but kinda aged better. As for running costs, the LCR wins every time, from my experience Audi charge a lot more for everything than Seat. I guess this is because your servicing a car that initially cost a lot more than the LCR and comes from a more 'prestigious/upmarket' company. I really like both but the interior and 4x4 of the S3 swayed me in the end. If your after a nice car you cant go wrong with either, if you want to tune one of them the S3 offer a lot more potential, especially with the 4x4. Check out the response to this thread on AS.net, it wont let me post a link as i've got less thank 15 posts!

im guessing on a seat forum and audi forum, there would be biased opinions on each.

lol, the only thing i disagree with in your post enough to reply to is the dated looks. in my opinion, id say the older S3 looks a lot more dated than the LCR. a lot of people i know say that the looks of lcrs keep up with the newer cars, as opposed to the S3, you will know its quite old and dated.

It all depends what you want the car for. I've got an 8L S3 myself, I came from an EP3 Civic TypeR & I'd had more than enough of the dam wheel spin that thing produced so didn't really fancy another FWD, would defo have a leon or an Ibza as there nice cars but not sure I'd be happy tuning it into a front tyre destroyer.

With stock HP I doubt the front grip will be all that bad unless its wet, I'v had my S3 on the 1/4 mile & the launch off the line was amazing, I then tried switching off the 4WD by keeping the hand brake on one notch & gave it a good launch & to my surprise the fronts managed fine on there own, this was with 225 18" falken tyres & stock 210hp.

Search for Audi S3 @ Crail on YouTube for the vid.

i think both cars have pro's and cons,

the audi :

very nice interior, 4 wheel drive, but looks dated and costs more

the lcr more stylish, better value for money but is only 2wd,

for me, the 4x4 would be wasted as i very rarely fly round corners.

the s3 is an old mans car, the leon look better, handles better and has a cooler image.

LCR is the best looking of the mk4 platform, looks hard as nails from front and sides.
They might have saved money on interior things and quality might not be up with the S3 on certain things, although dash came out the audi anyway, but then they spent money on more performance parts such as the brembo brakes as standard, at the time only VAG group car to have them and alot more expensive to fit onto a car than the run of mill stuff like S3 came with.
As for 4WD, it dont do owt for handling, LSD is better option.

This one came back from the grave....

Fit a LSD ( a real one not a silly electronic one) and the LCR will put its power down very well and prove a reasonable match to the audi. Personally only part of the S3 i'd prefer are the gorgeous seats.

Wow, I can't believe that you signed up to dig up a thread that's been dormant for six and a half years Olly, just to have a dig at the LCR and big-up the S3.

A mate of mine keeps asking why I didn't get an S3 instead of the LCR, and the honest truth is that IMHO the S3 looks boring and apart from the 4WD is inferior or identical in every other way. The Audi badge does nothing for me and while I'd love a 4WD LCR, an S3 isn't one. I rarely see other LCRs on the road too, but plenty of S3s. If I wanted to fit in I'd have bought a Focus
