Leon 150TDI - Noise on lift-off

Hi

I have only recently got myself a Leon Cupra TDI 150 and I am loving it so far.

The only issue I have is that the car has started making a funny gravely sucking noise from the passenger side when I rev and the let off the throttle, and sometimes when accelerating, along with the usual turbo whistle.

Car still pulls well though and has plenty of power + no smoke, etc.

Wierd thing is that I only noticed it started after I replaced the air filter with a new standard one (old one was black). Can't see any pipes that have come disconnected or anything.


Does anyone know what this could be or heard it before?

Welcome to the forum.

Only time I ever heard a screechy gravelly noise was before my turbo died. I would have the car checked out no necessarily by a garage but by another person with a 150pd. Might just be because your not used to it.

Its the noise of the unused boost coming back towards the airbox? But do as JJ says to be safe

I've got this sound too mate, proper s**t me up the first time I heard it!

I've been told by a guy at Jennings Seat that it's normal, and that was over a year and a half ago (and about 22k miles) so touch wood it's nothing bad.

Still would be worth as JonJay said, if a mate has another 150pd ask them to give their opinion

screechy gravel doesn't sound good. When I lift off from boosting I usually get a small dumpvalve sounding noise as the excess boost finds it's way out. Also thanks to my BMC box and the exhaust I often also get a pigeon like "wooOHOOO" noise as well, after the dump of pressure.

Thanks for all the replies. If I can find someone local that with another PD 150 I will see if they don't mind checking it out.

Failing that I don't live too far from JKM performance -only trouble is trying to get a day off work to go...

I eventually found the source of the noise - The air box is resonating against something in the engine bay!

I'm thinking the rubber bushings may have come loose or something so will try and re-secure/dampen it this weekend.

it sounds like i have a similar problem... had my gearbox replaced on my 150TDI FR and now i've got it back it makes a creaking noise when you accelerate hard and then ease off. Can't figure out what it is - going back to garage tomorrow to see if they have any idea!!
