Im looking into buying a new leon 1.2TSi SE Copa and wanted to know what people think of them and its engine.
I currently have a grande punto 1.4 16v 95bhp and want something a little faster and nicer to drive!
Anyone with any comments please throw them my way ;)
Cheers!

My wife has that model and yes its a great car. The 1.2 tsi is fun to drive with plenty of pull mid range. Fuel consumption is not brilliant though. Town driving expect low-mid 30's and motorway low 40's. Her car came with FR 17 alloys FOC for some reason. The car looks great but I don't think it helps with fuel !!

Its a cracking little engine! Had mine about 3 weeks or so now. It certainly feels quicker then its 0-60 time would suggest but I guess this is helped by the fact its peak torque kicks in from just 1500rpm. I find it very similar to driving a diesel. It feels wrong driving at just over 40mph in 6th gear when you consider its a 1.2 but its happy to do so and it will be reading 60-65mpg :)

Economy wise I know some people have been struggling but so far I have been impressed. Drive it sensibly around town and it will do between 40-45mpg. On a motorway run it will do 50mpg but only if you stick to 60 ish. Sit at 70 and it will be doing around 45ish. The best I've had is 54.4mpg on a 14 mile commute back from work but I will admit I was driving carefully! I also have the option 17" alloys which can't help the fuel economy either.

All I can say is have a test drive and see what you think :)

Doubt it'll be much quicker than the Punto, but the 1.2 TSI is an excellent engine.

Maybe not if you ragged the nuts of them both but in normal day to day driving the Leon will feel quicker. The punto has only 92 lb- ft torque and that's at probably about 4500-5000rpm at a guess the 1.2tsi has all 129 at just 1500rpm :)

To be fair your 2.0tdi has a bit more grunt :)

On the flip side the 1.2tsi can be awful on fuel. I've seen 32mpg on a spirited drive to work

The 1.2 TSi has 103BHP.

to give some perspective, before i bought my Leon i had a 1.6 Zetec Focus. That had 100Bhp

so the 'little' 1.2 TSi has slightly more power than a 1.6 non turbo Focus.........

small engine but more powerful than meets the eye!

I'm 17 and drive a 1.2TSI S Leon, fantastic engine, and not much more to insure than my 1.2 clio was, but a lot more power! The car has a great pull in 2nd gear, you really can feel the turbo kick in. I drive around town mainly with a couple of dual carriageway runs to the retail park about 8 miles away and i achieve around 37mpg average.

If you're considering the 1.2tsi leon, and also a 1.6tdi ibiza, what about the 1.2tsi ibiza? Same engine but a second quicker 0-60 than the leon.

I do love my car though :)

Well i think ive definately decided i want the leon se copa 1.2 tsi because it comes with so much kit! On the skoda forums they say the 1.2tsi is only turbo charged but i thought it has a supercharger and a turbo? Unless they are talking about a different engine!
Any body had any problems or know of any problems big or small?

The 1.2 TSI is Turbo only. The TSI stands for Turbo Stratified Injection.

I don't believe there are any known problems as such. There was a few issues when the engine was first released due to the software but I don't believe any of these effect the Leon or Ibiza.

The 1.2 is a fairly basic engine. its an 8v valve jobby with a turbo basically. I believe its similar in design to the 1.4 TSI (turbo only) which has proved to be reliable.

Have you had the chance to test drive one yet?
