Leaking front shock absorber

Hi

I have a 2010 Ibiza 1.6tdi and noticed recently when turning left and accelerating the front left wheel is shuddering, even at average speeds.

After having a look I have found the shocker is leaking badly, could this be the cause?

Also I have bad inside Tyre wear on the drivers side, not so bad on the side with the leaking shock.

What could cause this, the steering wheel is straight and the car doesn't pull.

Thanks

Dave

Water? Collant? Oil?

Also...

What is the tyre wear like?

Hi, it's not engine related, certainly suspension etc. I assume with the shock absorber not working it's making the wheel bounce when the load on it isn't that much if turning left?

I will change the shock and get the alignment checked and try some new rubber.

a good idea to do both the other can't be far behind + any dodgy bushes and then alignment saves paying twice

Sorry i misunderstood what you said previously...
yes, you probably need a new shock absorver... get an aligment and the tyre wear could be related to the shock absorver and the noise/shuddering related to the uneven tyre wear.

also check you tyre pressure if your tyre wear is in the center or in both edges.

It's not making any noises, it's only when you turn left so your taking the weight of the passenger side wheel, it's like the wheel is skipping and shuddering over the road surface. It also doesn't want to steer to well. I will get the shock changed this weekend and go from there. Obviously new tyres and a Geo check.

To the OP, I think that you should take the above suggestion on board, proper re-alignment can cost quite a bit, paying for it twice would hurt a bit, also check the road springs, if they are showing signs of corrosion they might break soon, price new ones up or remove corrosion and repaint them if time allows. Paying to get all that done should mean that you can then move on without spending any more money at that end for a long time. It seems that road water and salt do cause micro cracking of these springs which can join and end up snapping a section off them which is an MOT fail. I'm really just waiting on them breaking on daughter's late 2009 Ibiza, from my experience of this on wife's last Polo, if I need to replace a strut, I'll be replacing both and the springs.

Though, it has to be said, maybe these later platforms do not have the same problem with alignment as the previous platforms - it would depend on how you go about getting the struts off the car.
