vw's v6 lumps have never been impressive if your looking at power figures, take a look at the mk3 vr6 2.8 with 180bhp not a lot when u think mazda put a 1.8 v6 in a mx3 with 140bhp.
before the r32 was launched i heard it was gonna be a r34 so i doubt they would launch a r36 when mk6 is not far away

Not Even a 180 BHP but 174 BHP. Have recently read tho, that the Golf will be coming out in the R36 guise early next year before the mark VI.

But then compare that further to the Jap's and it looks even worse. Toyota can do 190bhp from a N/A 1.8 4pot. Kinda makes 180 from a 2.8 VR6 look pathetic.

although they can get 190 remember the torque is only bout 145 lb and i think thats at almost 4000rpm so something like a lc is already pulling almost 180lb of torque [2.8 vr6 pulling 174lb] so the japs sacrifice a bit of torque to obtain those figures

That's very true, although it's not even that high with torque. 129lbs/ft rings a bell.... Which was part of the reason for selling my Celica and for buying the LCR over a Type-R. The fact you have to ring the cars neck to get the power out of it means it's tiring to drive. In the LCR the torque means I can pull away in any gear from any speed.

with that type of engine you really have to be on the edge or you'll lose the kick, i know its a bit better in the civic type r but having a balanced engine is much better which i think you get with the 1.8t
