Hi Witalik - If you put your ear to the drivers side front grill after youve turned the ignition off. you should hear a sort of buzzing sound for abt 10mins. thats the secondary coolant pump. IF you cant hear it, it may need changing OR, the wiring might need re-securing.

Damn this thread[:@] i find myself constantly checking this every time i get out of my car now!

LOL same here so paranoid! One thing I did notice was when going out for a drive and then parking up, after swithing everything off and sitting in the car i could hear a gurgling noise which i presume is the water being pushed around the engine by this secondary pump.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, it mentions the secondary pump in the pdf leon manual which you can download here if you havent already got a copy.

I'm thinking the noise your hearing is the air con unit fluid in the passengers side under the glove box.
Well after a good drive yesterday my pump was quite so looks like I might need a new one.
Time to speak to my mate David at Seremotors

Hey,

Well i did check it this afternoon, but its awfully dead silent.....

How can u explain this to the dealers ? so they know what they have to do......

tell them you think your waterpump may have gone as you can't hear it spinning when you turn the car off. It's not uncommon for them to pack, if you haven't had it done it will need doing anyway. The part isn't anymore than £35 at most i think, it's labour that is the biggest part of the cost

Should this not show up on vagcom with a fault code? I took mine out for a drive today and parked up, switched the engine off and listened intently even got out and put my head near the bonnet but there was no buzzing sound. Neighbours must think I'm so wierd!

well guys, the noise definitely should be there, the dealers should know exactly what this is, when i rang a seat specialist here in coventry, he knew what i was talking about straight away. AND its in that seat guide pdf (link is on this thread somewhere i think). its not the "water pump" .. its a secondary coolant pump. that pumps additional coolant around the system once the ignition is switched off.

wont show up on VAGCOM mate, ive checked mine...

Yep took mine to Backdraft motors today, proper helpful in there.

They hooked the pump up to a 12v supply and it started working, so they seem to think its a fault in the relay. Going to leave it with them tommorrow so they can do some further testing.

Another way you can check its working is if you put your hand on the pipe connected to the pump you'll feel the water gushing around in it. The secondary pump is located on the left hand side of the radiator its got two pipes coming out of it and a connector on the top.

Today is the first time i have ever heard it working!! Wonder how long its not worked for

thinking about it, could the failure of this secondary coolant pump caused increas temperature whilst driving for eg when doing logs last week DPJ noticed the temp was a bit high and i'm sure i don't always hear the buzzing of the said pump when i turn off??????

Apparently it has been known to cause overheating or raised temps if it gets clogged (which it may do if its not working), i suppose this would have an even bigger effect if your car is tuned and putting a higher load on the engine.

i checked the pdf file ...

it is on page 23 that explains it.

i really need to check it with the bonnet open because i cannot hear anything....

but when i check the Functional wiring diagram it does not show the V51 pump,

To bad otherwise i could have checked it myself

Hi Guys, well, i collected my LCR from the garage on wed night, and guess what, theres nothing wrong with my pump??guy said hed tested it time and time again and was working everytime. BUT, he did say that if it goes, or is NOT working, its realy important to change it, as it continues to cool once ignition is turned off. SO if in doubt, CHECK IT OUT..

peace
