I would hope that after 5 months, he had made his mind up about this, since that was when this thread ended

I was looking at all possibilities - the scooby, CRT, Focus ST. I basically chose the LCR because i liked the looks, there are not as many of them around, and above everything else cheaper running costs.

You get extra 10mpg (which for me is a huge saving alone), service costs are much lower, cheaper to run. BUT if i was getting a company car i would probably go for the scooby - as I am guessing work will cover services and fuel.

Have you thought about a MK5 Golf R32? 4wd and 250bhp?

These seem to be going on Autotrader used for about £19k now so bet you could get a deal. Alternatively www.motorpoint.co.uk have had these going for £21,995 new. Thats a hell of a saving if you can stretch to it...and i bet you will still get £15k back for it in 3 years sold privately.....elderly leggy MK1 R32's are still going for £12/13k.

Like RobM said, spend a bit of money on an LCR and you could kill most things on the road. The tuning potential is immense.

Id go for the Impreza for the simple reason, you're not going to open the door to find a puddle of water in the footwell.
Enough said.

If you go with your heart, get the Impreza - the fact that you're in two minds about it suggests the LCR would be a better bet though (if you have worries about a car, they won't disappear when you buy it). If you want useable big power and fun factor, Jap RWD/4WD are always the way to go though so consider the Nissan S15 and R34 GTR also.

I'd say go for the Scooby. If the 05 scooby's are the same as the 53 scooby's the JDM ones have the twin scroll turbo which when mapped up absolutely fly. My brother had a 53 plate one which he ended up getting about 400bhp out of. Just a word of warning if you want the burble of normal scooby's then the JDM STi isn't for you because they don't burble.

well i hope by this point he has seen sense and not got a scooby. My old man had an STi and it was pants compared to my LCR, both were standard. He will even say the same, he had nothing but problems with it, dodgy transmission, paint bubbling, seats made funy creaking noises from new, yes it was fun to drive and fast, but to be honest it was not worth the money or the hassle.

hard choice isn't it tbh,

having beasted both about, the choice scooby which you can buy get in and be a nutter almost straight away, knowing full well it "just" handles and grips the road like s**t to a furry blanket.

Or lcr, which you can just get in an drive but if you want it to handle and go round corners any where near as well as a scooby, you'll have to spend a decent amount of money adding better suspension/ neuspeed arb's etc, etc, blah...blah... blah

bang per buck and individuality lcr

straight out of the box loonacy.... scooby
downside but every carlos sainz wannabee has one....
