no problem, where abouts in the country are you?
helpful lot on here you will find.

bedfordshire.

Whilst looking in my engine last night i also found something a little strange. It looked like a hot water bottle lid. black made of rubber about 1.5" high and the thread on it was about 3/4" wide, it had vw on it so it is def from the engine but was laying on the nearside engine mount. any ideas?

interesting, if you can put a pic on im sure we will answer that quickly. You can put pics on thread by hosting them on places like photobucket and putting the link in your thread entry.

It's the bung that goes in the bell housing where you look in it to see the flywheel to see the timing mark. There will be a hole for it in the top of your gearbox near the engine.

Mate you are a legend and you even have a picture with it ( although my explanation must have been extremely accurate ).

Did you have this to hand or did you pull it from your engine, either way thanks a lot and i am still chuckling now at that response [B)]

its been asked before, but i couldnt find it.
im sure the gear box oil is seperate so i may be right in saying that this isnt the cause of your oil usage.

aha luton... ok well i may be able to pop by and help you find out if its the coil pack causing you issues.

No i dont think it is the cause of the oil usage either but was just curious as to what it was that i had found. i may take you up on your offer at some point but i dont seem to have time to scratch me arse at the moment what with the kids omg how old am i? crimbo is just round the corner and my life may calm down for a mo so if i still have issues then we will have to get in touch.

much appreciated conroe. [B)]

Well guys i went down to my local gsf shop and purchased a new coil pack for the no2 cylinder which cost me £16, exactly the same part all looked good removed the plug pulled the old one out thought i would check the spark plug while i was there and noticed it was black hmm not clever so i also pulled plug no1 and that was fine golden brown usual colour, fitted the spark plugs back and replaced the coil pack started the engine absolutely no flipping difference :( , so my next theory is could it be possible that i am losing the oil up the side of piston number two and that is what is causing my misfire and shite oil consumption . it still pulls like a train when it is going it is just b b b b vroom when you rev gently up to 2k (like the text sound effects ) i might go and change that one plug and see if it makes the difference, i know this sounds silly but the car is under warranty but isnt booked in till the 27th and i begrudge doing this work because i am a pikey but i just want her back guys sounds corny but you lot know as well as i do that when it is a nice cold morning slightly misty no other cars and you just nail it through the lanes it is such a buzz and reminds you why you bought it. i am terrible for cars when they start playing up i just sell and lose a fortune lol and i dont wanna lose the lcr.

Well it has all gone a bit serious!

the car was taken in on the 27th of dec 07 they changed a coil pack on cylinder 2 and then returned the car to me a day later. there didnt seem to be much difference but i took it away to give it a proper test drive, covered about 50 miles and things started flashing on the dash yes it was the eml and then it stayed on.
I rang the seat garage up and and they said ring the aa who came out and guess what another logged cylinder #2 missfire, he cleared the message and said take it back to Seat, i booked it in and left it, if you have read the whole post you will understand the vehicle was also using oil so i asked them to perform a compression check of which IT FAILED.
They took the head off found nothing now apparantley they have the whole engine out of the vehicle and have found a problem on the #2 cylinder bore what is actualy wrong i dont know but it is now over to seat to see what they want to do now.

ALL THIS FROM A CAR THAT HAS DONE 24K WITH A FSSH :wtf:

ps: i still love the car :funk:

I've had my LCR for 3 years and i always keep getting cought out by low oil levels.
I took it back to dealer after 1.5 years to get them to check it over and they said there was nothing wrong but in my opinion its using oil up far too fast
