Does sound a lot, they don't drink oil as a rule, although I do remember reading about a TT225 that drank oil from new and Audi said that it was "in tolerance".

Did you check the oil when you first got it? I'm not trying to say it's not drinking oil, but the first litre could've easily take you from the lower line to the middle line (if you know what I mean).

When i picked it up it had new brake pads and had a service and all levels were sound, i mean really at this rate at the end of a 12000mile year i would of consumed and extra 9ltrs of oil on top of the usual servicing oil. it still has 9months of seat warrantee on it i will book it in for them to check it out but i bet i just get fobbed off. We will put the customer service to the test, for those in the UK it will be the perrys in aylesbury that i will be going to.

My other concern is that at the end of the warrantee i want to revo this car but if it has high oil consumption now is this gonna get worse afer it has been tuned will it have an affect.

regards conroe..

This is the reason I sold my Focus.

It was using about 1.5 ltrs every 400 miles. :wtf:

No external leak, no black smoke, no power loss......took it for a pre-emission test and it passed with flying colours even though the inside of the exhaust was full of black carbon.

What oil is been used? Proper approved dealer oil?

Any power loss? Try clean the inside of your exhause pipe out as much as possible.....(wear gloves ;) ) then you can see if builds up again quickly or not.

Also you could put a large piece of cardboard under your engine bay after a good long drive overnight. see if there any drips on the cardboard.

Other things to check:-

PCV system. (not sure where or how the Seat one works - on my Focus there were two seperate pipes for the PCV system. One going from top block to air filter housing and the other was lower down near the exhaust manifold but on the front of engine, this had a one-way valve attached to it.) Make sure any PCV pipes are clean and clear, check any valves are opening ok.

You can always send me a sample of oil from your engine to test, I can see ifthere is any blow-by happening or any wear inside that may be a result of worn rings etc.

Never had to put any oil in mine between services.
I've owned it for over 25k miles. Bought it on 24k and now on 51k.

Get it checked out! You maybe losing it in the Intercooler pipes?

If you've got warranty left, get it booked in ASAP. When you do ask them what "normal" and perhaps even "excessive" oil consumption is, before you tell them what it's consuming ;)

.

:( omg that is going through so quick you should of stuck a bowl at the end of your exhaust to catch the oil and you could of put it back in, rofl.

As for what oil do i use it is vauxhall oil 5/30 fully synth the same stuff they use in the astra vxr (use it cos wifey works at vauxhall dealership) us buying the cupra really pissed her boss off he asked why buy a seat when i could sell you a quality vauxhall for the same money she said "cos the seat is quality unlike any of your vauxhalls" lol what a career move .

Hi,has the car had a service recently?it might not have been done at 20k.Oil consumption on any engine is perfectly normal but 3lts in 4000 miles is too much, mine runs on mobile 1 0w-40 and uses about 0.75 lt every 5000 miles or so.If its had a service id get dealer to look at it,if engine is not using it is there a leak from sump plug or filter area, have you noticed any oil patches at all?.

no none at all they have had it on the ramps at the wifes works to see if any leaks but as i said the eng is dry as a bone and the driveway is clear, as for needing a service, it shouldnt need one at this rate it will be getting a whole new sump full every 4 months, <<<< that was a joke btw.

thats too much by quite a way.
Ive had two leons and both use hardly any oil at all.

There is an undertray so you may not see leaks on your drive, id get this taken off and see if there is any evidence of a leak.
Sumps are easily knocked, so it may be cracked or the seal damaged for example. If its leaking only slightly you probably would not see a puddle under the car when parked due to the undertray.
Report it now and get it done under warranty.

***edit*** appears you have had it checked on some ramps... i hope they checked it properly...

If its still in warranty or youve agreed warranty with dealer id take it back soon and tell dealer you want it sorting,if they say its normal id get them to buy oil for me,so i can keep topping it up or better still i would get it in writing from dealer that they have said oil consumption is ok,that way if something does go bang and lots of blue smoke you have covered yourself. To be fair, the dealer round my way i wouldnt trust to change the oil on my lawn mower, the service department is useless.

WOW that is too much. i have a 51 plate LC and have done just under 10k in 9 months and i still have enough oil by what the dipstick is showing, have not topped it up once and i do small constant journeys too! Oh and i floor it at times too! Obviously when the car is warmed up. Check it out imo.

Even with my power I can barely squeeze in 1/2 litre top up between oil changes. I have similar mileage to you as well. It was the same on my LC.

Sounds like something is wrong...

oil level still ok?

it may be a coil pack. (£30 part) let us know how you get on.

A friend of mine has just plugged his laptop into the vehicle which has some vag software on it and it came up with 2 faults: multiple missfire and missfire from chamber number 2 . it is in the garage on the 27th getting the oil consumption looked at will my car be alright to drive till then or will it cause some other internal damage

well missfire certainly is consistent with a coil pack. (there is a 5 year 'good will' warranty on these', however you need to get the car to the dealer for them to confirm before they will honour the warranty. they also say not to drive it when missfiring. Unburnt fuel could damage the cat). So the warranty is not easy to take up. 'Chocolate tea pot' comes to mind.

Personally, id go get a coil pack, (skoda may be cheaper) and replace chamber 2. I think this is the 2nd in from the offside of the car so its just a case of engine cover off, use screw driver to lift coil pack up, dissconnect wires connector, replace with new and reassemble. make sure you puch down new coil pack right down.
Then see if car runs better. Fingers crossed it will.
If the coil pack fail the engine light usually comes on the dash, your may be playing up but not totally failed.
