LC vs Golf5 GTI

Did a run with a friend a couple of days back and I was suprised that by 90mph he only had half a car in front of me. We both had a bad start but I kept up with him very well.

What do you think? Is the GTI much faster that a stock LC?

I've driven a few MkV Golf GTI's and I thought that they was almost as quick as a standard LCR, however a standard LC is almost as quick as a standard LCR. It's the twisties where the Golf will come into it's own. The GTI is a bloody good car!

So is the Focus ST, it's cheaper, faster and I think it comes with more kit?

I would say a Golf would be quicker due to 20hp & 30lb/ft more torque. Not by a lot but the one I drove felt faster than my old LC...

my friend has just got a focus st and it is pretty even with my lcr. Focus has the edge low down but the leon catches it higher up. When remapped the leon pulls away from the focus but as expected is a lot worse at low revs. Focus is impressive car to drive - handles better than a standard lcr. Sound much better.

I can't get off on the looks of the new Focus ST exterior wise. I know it's cheap and loaded with kit, but it just doesnt do it for me.

would agree that the leon looks better. Will be interesting to see how the new leon cupra will compare when it is launched.

Agreed. I am holding out for the new Leon Cupra. I would love a Golf GTi but it looks like it will have to ba e used example. The Focus ST just doesn't look sexy, Astra VXR is a Vauxhaul

i'd worry having the ST with that 2.5ltr volvo engine in it would try and make me buy a caravan and tow it eveywhere!!!! - minus the caravan good handling and sounds nice too, why couldn't the LCR sound more meatier standard?
