No i havent im no mechanic by any means but i dont mind having a tinker with itmyself! where would i find these and how do i know if there knackerd or not?
if it was the drive shafts...when u full lock it..or almsot full lock it and driove slowly it would kind of knock evey2seconds or 3seconds..depending how quick ur going...
i spose...
ok cheers mate im not to sure as it is the driveshafts then cos it also does it when im not moving... as in when i turn the wheel when stood still i get one knock when i 1/4 to 1/2 turn.
probably not the drive shfts then...they kind of click/knock when u move on full lock...could be the cv joints.. a mechanic wil tel you in 5mins tho mate. Just take it to a garage
Ye sounds like the CV joints. I had a quote of about £60 each on my tdi, but its much easier to replace the whole shaft than just the joint itself. Take it to a garage, they'll tell you straight away. This might sound like a stupid thing to suggest, but have you checked the wheel bolts? I had a friend with a gti that had the same kind of sound, he thought it was the shaft, on his way to the garage, his wheel fell off because he had no bolts holding it on. Appaerntly he's not the only omne this has happend to with a mk2 Ibiza.
I should be straight forward, haynes are pretty good with their instructions. From past experience ive found that its easier to take the driveshaft off the car compleatly and change the cv on the bench rather than struggling under the car. Its allen bolts that hold the shaft to the hub and the box.
ok cheers well im gunna get it diognosed this week... just been out the car and it knocks just over half a turn to the right and no more bring the wheel back to the stright position and it doesnt knock and any degree to the left and it doesnt knock? also its intermitant.
If the car is stationary and engine turned off, jiggle the steering wheel back and for and up and down?
Any noises? The adjustible colums sometimes have play in em.
