I doubt its that the parts are dry to be honest, Mine was sat for 2 months while i had the brakes sorted and if anything it feels better for it.

If your still in Benson, i can meet you and scan it with vagcom just for pieace of mind, even though i dont think knocking would throw a fault code? Im free all this week if you need it mate.

No, not there mate abit busy for that. I would have thought the road that runs near M+P`s would be good aslong as its not busy and late`ish, Ive just started using the small bit of bypass down near sainsburys at the oxford end if you know it. Not busy at all and never any cops around.

make sure the oil is topped up, my old car used to do the same thing if the oil was on the lower end of the dipstick.

Other than that take it for a good run, make sure everything gets nice and hot, as the hydraulic cam followers may have emptied over the time it's been stood (the check valves in the followers sometimes do leak).

Had similar problem with mine recently. Dunno whether its the same but had a very noise engine on start up and knocking. Would settle down after a minute or two. If you drove on it though when it was still noisey, I'd get an oil warning light. Ended up that I had aparently drove through a big puddle at some stage and all my filters and stuff were soaking wet. Water had aparently somehow got into my oil too and that was causing the extra noise.... also why i was getting the warning light as the water was causing the oil pressure to take longer to build up.

Oil changed and everything dried out. Fixed the problem 100%.
