Come on folks help me out here as I'm getting the usual run around off the dealears and I know someone will know out there!

My key fob's sh@gged on my FR - tried new battery; blowing dust out; throwing it up the wall etc etc but to no avail. :(

Locks/unlocks doors fine with key and demobilises immobiliser ok as well.

Rang two dealers to ask if they will sell the fob bit without the key so I can program it myself as per the hand book.

1st one said no I cant buy them separate and I wouldn’t be able to program it myself - net result £88 plus vat.

2nd one said I could by the fob separate for £45, but wouldn’t be able to program it my self and would cost £95 for labour - net result£140 plus vat.

No forgive my ignorance here but I thought the key and glass transponder thingy worked the immobiliser and the key fob just turned the alarm off/locked & unlocked the doors

I also thought if I bought the new fob and shoved it on to the key/transponder part of my original key, I could bung it in the ignition and reprogram it as per the manual:confused:

I need help (generally ) if poss as whilst there's load of references to this sort of stuff on here, I cant seem to pinpoint the exact answer and £140 seems a bit steep!

Muchisimas gracias in advance boys and girls:)

you do sound prime for an upgrade.

However you should be able to buy the lower half yourself, and swap the existing upper onto the new lower section. would need to program the fob to unlock the doors but the transponder wont change so wont need reprogramming.

Dealers trying to 'fob' you off mate, by the sounds of it.

Go in and show them the exact part you want.

Will it need programing by dealers though:confused:

No mate you can programme this yourself as per same method described in manual or via VAGCOM if you have it or can get access to it.

You will just need to swap the transponder (little glass tube) for the immobiliser from your current key to the flip one then get a blank blade cut for the flip key. These can be bought on ebay for £5 and cut at Timpsons etc.

Top mod and well worth doing. 3 button flip keys work on some cars but not others. 2 button ones work on all.

I also have a 2 button one going spare if you would like it? :D Cost me £30 yours for £20 inc. postage. You will need to get a blank blade for it.

You know you want to. :funk:

Sound advice!

Thought that might be the case but the dealers were saying otherwise (£95 to program somthing that doesnt need programing - I ask ya!)

May be interested in your key Marshyc - what frequency is it?

Typicaly, mines the bloody 433mhz one which appears to be more scarce:rolleyes:

It's a 434Mhz. Part No. HJo 1J0 959 753 CT, which supercedes the AG fob so it's newer. 07 is printed on fob.

It definitely works with the Leon cos I programmed it to mine along with the 3 button one I am now using but when I found out all 3 buttons worked I removed the 2 button one.

All done via VAGCOM so you can swap and change as many times as you like.

It's yours if you want it. No worries if not I will just put it on the 'For Sale' section.

I'd take it off your hands fella but having read the flip key post, it appears that as mines a 433mhz, a 434mhz wont work:cry:

Looks like its ebay unless anyone's got a 433mhz fob they want to flog me ;)

It will work guaranteed, my original one was a 433mhz but the 434mhz worked fine when I programmed it. You will not find a 433mhz flip key. I too had read that but also read other threads too which cast doubt on it and ones from people who had used a 434mhz.

Still up to you though but I can guarantee it.

If not I will just put in for sale section.

The 433/434 is supposedly only rounding - the first fobs were one, the newer fobs were the other but there is apparently no different.

I should really check what frequency mine is I suppose.

Sounds more interesting now :)

Just one more question. What does the three button one do that the two button one doesnt?

Is it the fuel cap thing? That doesnt work remotly on a mark 1 Leon surely:confused:

OK I'm convinced!

My third mod if you include the air freshner and some floppy wipers:D

Marshyc - I'll PM you and pending a couple more questions, consider it sold!

Hope it bloody works now :(
