Kenwood Music Keg

i have done a forum search, and found one or two threads relating to this. but i was just wondering if someone could clarify some things for me... please :)

i'm hoping to be getting a ibiza 1.6 sport (mk3) at some point over the next week or so. so i was wondering if anyone had any experience with the Kenwood music keg (KHD-C710). is there any way i could get it to work with the standard Ibiza head unit? or is there anything similar on the market that would do the job? (an Ipod was another idea)

thanks in advance

Hi mate,

Looked it this sometime ago... couldn't get one retail, everyone had sold out, and the cheapest was £250+ so pretty expensive compared with the ipod route..

I was told at the time they also couldn't get anymore as kenwood were stopping production into the uk :( could be duff info I was told, any else know?

I know the unit is based upon a phatnoise unit sold in the us.

The other option I'm now looking at it the in-car pc mp3/dvd/gps etc... and the cost wouldnt be much more... (in the computer trade myself) :) looking at a case plus 12v psu to buy then fitting the bits myself

I have the music keg and a Kenwood head unit. Very pleased with it although this does not help you as it is not connected to a Seat heat unit!

does the unit jump at all when the ride gets a bit 'hectic' ? i heard reports of the bigger 20gb version just giving up at the slightest hint of a bumpy ride....

what sort if head unit have you got? (did you need a fascia adaptor and wiring harness?)

I have found a cheapo source for a music keg and am interested....

The phatnoise works with the Alana in the Mk4 and most other VW/Skoda HU's so should be ok in the Mk3 Ibiza. Costs about £120 delivered from the US. I've had one in my Octavia for a few months and it's never skipped/jumped or put a foot wrong yet.

No it never skips, although there are often updates on the website for firmware upgrades. I am considering upgrading to an 80 or even 100 gig drive.

They are toshiba laptop drives and you can get them from Dabs.com easily enough. clicky although I have not done it myself as I have no cash at the moment and I am not sure this drive will work or not.
