Hi,

After 1 day of owning my Cupra R I got impatient and decided to fit my head unit with a friend....

Anyway....all was fine until about 3 today when the buttons would illuminate for a few seconds and then switch off.

Have taken it out this evening and have tried connecting the old unit, and this seems to power up, but the screen will not work/accept a code.

Anyone got any suggestions? The wiring harness doesnt seem to be damaged.

The radio is a JVC AVX33 if this matters at all

Cheers!

Sounds like a loose connection somewhere in the head unit wiring. If power is ok check the wiring digrams that came with your JVC and check if there is a light dimming connecton, could be something to do with that. Also check through your fuses that are associated with your stereo equipment.

I'm no expert though mate i'm sure someone can help you out more.

Did you use a wiring harness to fit the new headunit? Although the car uses ISO fitment for the wiring, I've had problems in the past with VAG cars and some specific makes of head unit... Kenwood, mainly, but that's not to say others aren't affected too.

Fitting a wiring harness in there too cured the problem instantly.

Ive got the similer tape jvc avx1. i had to swop my the ignition (red) and batery (yellow). as the tape didnt hold its memory and it dosnt off. it just use to cut power off.
The jvc also has a small emergency reset button to help agains malfunction.

resorted to going to the local car audio place - really helpful guy. Turned out it was a fuse! (im not mechanicially minded...lol) anyway he replaced a load of other fuses too, tested the wiring and gave me advice on how to install it back in - £20 cash, cant grumble.

Thank god it wasnt something more major....i would have been there hours trying myself!
