I bought my x plate leon on monday, only thing wrong was the radio not working. The guy said it needed a long run as the battery was a bit low. I took it foe a longish drive on my way home but didnt have tax so couldnt go too far. Next time i tried starting it all the electrics worked but it wouldnt start, bumped it and it seemed fine, tonight it wouldnt start again so jumped it ,but now the electric windows and interior lights dont work. Also when you put the key in the ignition the indicators flash twice. Im sure it diddnt do that before. Any ideas? Id like to find out whats wrong with it quickly as the guy said let him know if anythig serious goes wrong.
Pretty pissed off as my new car doesnt work properly

Sounds like you have a dead battery. it wants taking for a long run or binning if it isnt storing its charge.

Your radio will also need the code entering again if you have it, if not its £20 from Seat i think.

Cheers, i read the manual and it said about putting in a code for the radio, i cant get anything to come up on the screen at all and it flashes off and on intermittently. Was gunna replace it with a cd player iv got but cant get it out.

i'd sort out the battery problem first, get it charged up and you'll know where you stand.

You need special keys to get the radio out, although you can use feeler gauges. Also your aftermarket radio will be smaller than the Seat one, so you need a surround to fit it, i think they around £5+postage on ebay.

they are the wrong keys, they need to be the flat rectangular type. search 'VW radio removal' on ebay, you should find them there.

Cheers for the help, il leave the radio till iv got the battery sorted, would the flat battery have made the windows/interior light stop working as the were fine and now dont work even when the engines running. ALso there is a weird noise that comes from behind the dash kid of like a servo going a bit mad. Any ideas on that one. No wonder the car was cheap!

If the engine runs on its own (without another battery or jump pack) then all the other electrics should work when the car is running.

Might the windows and interior lights fuse have blown? my bro was monkeying around putting the jump leads on in the dark.

One easy way to find out bud, take the fuse box cover off and locate the correct fuses.

That will give you a definate answer.

Fuse 14 = Interior lighting, central locking, electric windows

Fuse 38 = Boot light, cental locking, electric windows

Hope this helps..

Open the drivers door and it will reveal the plastic cover on the end of the dash.

Its got a rubber seal all the way round it, pull the cover off and hey presto!

VAG-COM is a program that runs on Windows, you plug a lead from your laptop to your car and it will scan the ECU for faults.

It can program different things, etc etc...

I said Chester cos i'm stupid, I looked at the wrong person and thought you lived at Chester.

My bad!

Ahh cool, thanks. Iv just looked at the fuses which are different to fuses iv seen before and i cant tell if they are blown. I did take the two you said out and put them back in which seems to have fixed the windows and the interior light. Just the battery, radio, and weird noise from the dash to sort out now. Might go for a beer now.

A new battery wll set you back about £40 from a decent motor suppliers. I would get one then you can eliminate that and see where you stand.

Taking the fuses out has probably reset the modules that control the windows etc so they should be fine now. Sounds like you need a new battery and a couple of pints :)
