Hi
I wondered if anyone could help? I have searched but not found anything relevant.

I have noticed recently that my LCR225 pulls noticeably better when it is cold than it does when it has warmed up. I hadnt noticed this before and wondered if it was normal or if I may have a problem?

Another reason I think I may have a problem - I had a little race with a friend the other day, he was driving a Golf TDI 150bhp and beat me quite convincingly. I had 3 people in the car but only about 5 litres of fuel, he was on his own so lighter I guess (though he is a big guy). Should he have been able to catch me so easily?

Thanks in anticipation

Doesn't sound right to me that a TDi 150 should have beat you convincingly. You should have been able to at least hold your own. Remember that if your car is standard, and it was running hot, the effects of heat soak will diminish your power to some level, and your torque figure of around 228lb/ft is less than the diesels which will planted firmly in the 300's. Like you say, being 3 up in your car adds say 200kgs+ to the weight of your car (making it nearly 1600kgs). The Golf with 1 passenger will be closer to 1500kgs.

I'd be surprised if the golf one up weighed more than 1400kg. How much heavier is a diesel than its petrol equivalent? (Isn't a 1.8T mk4 about 1260kg ?)

No, always keep the revs below 3k for about the first 15 mins. It just feels like the car pulls much more strongly and gets to 3k revs quicker when its cold. Maybe I should time 0-60 when its cold and do it again when its warm.

Thanks for the advice coxw. The 1 in the golf is a big lad, I guess about 100kgs whilst the people in my car probably weighed about 170kgs and I had very little fuel and nothing else in the car so I am not sure that the weight was that critical.

Its always possible that he was just driving better than I was of course! It was a straight road, up hill. I was in front but he soon caught me. He said he was in 3rd when he got behind me, whilst I was in 5th.

Is there anyone anywhere between Fife and Aberdeen who would be kind enough to help me out with vagcom?

damn them TDI's, I was on the M6 some time ago back when I had the LC (180BHP) and in my rear view I coud see what looked like a golf gaining on me. I looked at my clock and I was pushing 80MPH, so I popped my foot down a little more to 100MPH and the damn thing was still gaining. Then.. wooooshhh, straight past me, must have been a chipped one....
