Interior light switch

Help.

The interior light has stopped coming on, but only when the drivers door is opened. It works fine when the passenger door is opened.

The lights left on alarm has also stopped working but thought this was also part of the problem.

I am thinking some sort of door switch problem, but don't know where this is/ where to find it.

Anyone know, or had similar problem and know fix?

I have the same problem. It looks like you didn't get a response but I'd like to know where the door switch is too as it's clear that's where the problem is.

I have checked the door and cannot see any visible switch like on other cars. I have checked the hinge side and can on see upper and lower hinges and the rubber boot that contains the wiring loom to the door. On the lock side of the door is just the lock, but i cannot see anything that resembles a switch or contact inside the lock itself.

Does anyone know where the lights left on buzzer is situated, as this may give me a starting point to trace the wires back to the switch?

Bumping this as I have exactly the same problem:

No "lights left on" warning buzzer
Interior light only comes on when passenger door is opened
Red warning light on drivers door doesn't come on when door is open, but passenger side does.

Any ideas anyone??

BUMB anyone as there is at least 4 of us with this problem now!

Having searched around some more (on here and on vwaudi forum) it seems this is a pretty common problem and is caused by a faulty switch in the door mechanism. Will most likely need to be replaced but unfortunately it is a sealed unit so you need to buy a whole new mechanism. Think I'll just live with it until the next service.
