well as i am sure most of you are aware i have never sold a car to a person.. only to a tescos insurance company due to them both being declared total losses..

been driving 11 months and had 2 accidents.

killed the last leon and before i bought a new one i made sure that i would be able to afford the insurance on the next one (as insurance now 1500)

pulled up a quote online, both accidents declared ect was given a quote on 1500.. after may 27th i would have been driving a year, i pulled up a quote for me driving a year and it dropped to 1300

got the renewal in the mail the other day.. 1800. now reaslicaly.. i cant afford that, tis just silly money, and especially when i was told on the phone by one of the customer sales people that the quote is accurate and will be with in a small amount of what thenewal will be.

so..

what do i do.

tescos are atcually pretty good on price, no one so far has been able to beat them. i am 21 (22 on the 13th) been driving 11 months, havd a 1.9 130 tdi and 2 accidents where total loss has been declared.

:(

I'm 23 (24 when insurance is renewed at end of may) - I've got 6yrs no claims bonus with 0 points. I'm struggling to get my insurance lower than about £650 at the moment, on my LC.
Its sh*te - prices are going up and up. Just like the fuel :censored:

Thats alot of insurance to pay :(

Every renewal iv had has been silly priced, was with elephant for 2 years and both renewals were stupid. re-did the quotes online with just a letter changed in my name to beat the system. Ring them up with the reference from the quote online and call them every name under the sun for trying to rip you off :censored: They will honour this price. I was with Tesco for my first year and they tried to do the same.

First year on the gti i payed £900 second year the requote was £880, did a qute online and got it at £680 and they said they would honour this but adrian flux beat it at £600.

Iv just gone 21 with 3 NCB

If you have the reference for the lower priced online quote I'd call them up and quote that and ask them to honour that price/quote! If they don't, ring up a few more places (5+) you'd be amazed how much the insurance quotes vary.
On my first car an alfa I had quotes from £2700 down to what I eventually got for £450.

If you really have trouble finding a lower quote then the only way to lower your premium is to higher the excess (but in the event of claim you'll be paying out more!)

Ring them up and give them your online quote, they will honour it.

Wouldnt you go for an older car thats cheap to buy and you could go TPFT just to build up a years no claims

£500 excess is almost std for young drivers nowadays. I was told on 1 policy that my excess would be £800 - I told them it wasnt worth me getting the insurance as the excess was more than double my premium :S

My excess now is still £400 - £450 ish.

Insurance premiums will usually go down under two circumstances.

1: When you reach the age of 25 (me in July)
2: When you have 5 yrs or more driving experience.

Like yourself, i was getting stuuuppiiidd quotes, £1250-third party fire and theft for a mk3 golf diesel with only 64hp! And belive me that was the very best i could get at the time.

Insurance is a b***h when you are young, its expensive and unless your parents are millionaires or idiots, it can cripple you financially.

But there is one thing in your favour, its that you are female! Premiums for females might come down quicker than they do for males.

Its not sound advice but it looks like you'll have to just grin and bear it until you get more experience behind the wheel, get a bit older and stop having accidents.

I agree with everyone who's said phone up with the cheaper (1300) quote reference, and make them honour it...

There's been articles in AutoExpress about this in the past. You should never accept the renewal price, because they always try and con you.

Have you tried Bell Direct? They're normally far cheaper than everyone else... for me anyway!! www.bell.co.uk

have you shopped about, ie elephant, admiral etc? instead of just renewing your policy, do another online quote, if it is cheaper than the renewal, buy the new quote and decline the renewal. i did exactly that with elepant last year, because like you, the renewal was more than i had done a quote for on the net.

It's always cheaper to shop around rather than accept the renewal.

Slightly different but my bike insurance went from £580 for the 1st year to £360 for the 2nd year :-o Renewal price was £540 but found someone else for a much better price online.

When buying the LCR most wanted around £1000+. I got this down to £830 at http://www.quotemehappy.com.

trust me i've been shopping around - tried every place i can think of that deals with modified cars.
When my renewal comes through it'll be interesting to compare cost to the inital online quote i got.

So far for AF I've had 4 quotes - with 2 weeks between each one. First was £700 - same as prev year. 2nd was £900. (As i was going to be moving house) 3rd was best quote (1.5weeks ago) and was £545.00 and this weeks quote was £850.

Each of those quotes are identical to the last, bar the 2nd one anyway (diff postcode)

I jst don't understand how 1 company can come up with such a variety of quotes. Its not like insurance costs go up down like my underwear (hehe) - I know they are just a broker and use several companies but the quotes should be closer IMO.

I'll stick my renewal price up here when i get it too. Then I'll go with the cheapest quote of the lot.

You could try Bell (same group as Admiral & Elephant)

I had simular experience with my Ibiza that was insured with Tesco

Back in '01', it got vandalised & broken into 2 days after I recieved the renewal qoute.

Within 2 weeks it got inspected, & repaired - was all set to pay the renewal then it shot up £750 with the previous renewal quote being null and void.
Which was £150 more than if I had payed for the repairs out of my own pocket.

Being 21 at the time certainly did'nt help so shopped around and went for Admiral as it worked out £300 cheaper than the revised tesco qoute.

:birdy: Tesco.

Dont mean to be all doom & gloom but I think you'd be hard pressed to
find somthing alot nearer when you consider all the factors........

Am 33 with 9 points and also a T1 diabetic and have just got fully comprehensive insurance with 15k mileage cover from easyinsurance.com ( stelios of easyjet fame) for £418. That's on a Cupra Tdi.

RAC and AA and Tesco etc couldn't get closer than £650 - i don't want bells whistles and frills, i just want to be road legal. Might be worth a try for others too.

did i hear someone say female!!!
try Diamond.
I declared all my external mods and they were the cheapest around.
Its definately true that young drivers are penalised, but it isnt totally unfair....
I know its not nice to hear, but why run before you can walk.
130bhp is a lot of power for an inexperienced driver, and the magic age of 25 is put there simply because the experience you will have gained in that time is invaluable.
i started on a 1.1 mk1 fiesta....not the nicest car around, but i refused to pay stupid money........that was in 1995, and things havent and wont change.......
there is no point being shocked by it anymore.........
want a nice car (which the Leon certainly is) you will get stung......

but refering back to your issue with the different quoted prices....get on the blower and fight your corner.....i had the same issue with my first bike in February......two different quotes............they honoured the lower! pull up the online quote.......it will be saved.....print it off....then call!
hope you get it sorted. :)

I would also try confused.com to try and see what that is coming up with.

They tend to go to the major insurers to get a quote and then display the least.

When we did it for my wife's insurance it came up with Diamond (£550 for a group 20 car cannot be bad especially with me having one accident last year and me on the policy as a named driver, although my wife in in her early 30's so an age difference from yourself).

Also would recommend Hanson & Robertson as they can often be quite good, not impressed with NU Direct as they seem to transfer you across to a call centre half way across the world and they do not have a clue about cars especially with any modification.

Cheers

i dont mean to sound rude, but i would never pay over 700 quid for insurance, mines way below that too, but spose its due to your accidents its sort of tarred you with a brush.
