I went from a 106 Gti (modded to around 145bhp and weighing less than a ton). I then got a poorly mapped Fabia VRS had that for a month or two and then got a cupra tdi (now at 200bhp).

I used to love high revs and long gears (62mph in 2nd, 90 in 3rd and 110mhp in 4th off the top of my head in the Gti). Didn't think I’d get along with a diesel. Now... I love it. You have all the engine power in a smaller rev range so it feels faster than it actually is and is really easy to drive. When on the lanes etc 3rd 4th gear and all the torque power you through the corners!

For the bloke that said the 100bhp petrol is faster than 106’s and saxo’s I hope your talking about 1.1 and 1.4’s. They range from 60 to 75bhp (in a lighter shell than the Ibiza). A VTR is 110bhp standard again in a lighter shell so you wouldn’t keep with that. The VTS, Gti is 120bhp standard is another matter and wouldn’t waste your time trying. Mine was around 160bhp per ton and kept with Type R’s fairly well down the strip till 3rd gear and was great on track.

I do recommend the PD130 and PD100 engine. You can get these in the Skoda Fabia and the Polo if you can’t find a decent Ibiza.

106's and saxo's are bad qualtiy cars. The only good thing about the 1.6 versions is the speed and handling. The amount of problems I had was just silly. I could have bought a new car for the money I spent over the years!!

Thats why you don't buy old french shopping trolleys :)

Thats why I braught a Jap shopping trolley as my first car.... ;)

Jap interiors = a no go area. Don't get my wrong, I loved the car, but the thing used to squeek and rattle like there was no tomorrow.

My mates 206.. I braked.. put clutch in.. oh wait my foot doesnt fit. the clutch wont go down!
