Indicator problem!

Hi all,

We have a problem with my fathers Altea that hopefully someone can help with!

The indicator stalk has a fault in that selecting left or right results in the sporadic flashing of both sides.

Obviously some kind of short - but has anyone any idea of where to look and how? We're a bit worried about cost as the cruise is on the same stalk!

Cheers!

Been quoted £160 inc. by the suppling SEAT dealer to replace the indicator stalk.

Would they would have to renew the Cruise Control element (works perfectly) or would they re-use this from the original stalk? Does the cost sound reasonable from a dealer? - I'd like to know how much the parts are!

FYI, I had the exact same issue with mine a few months back.
Turned out to be an issue with my towbar electrics that was causing it...

Funny as SEAT Quoted me for a new stalk too...

Dirty Copper Pots

Hi

My indicator has been randomly clicking in all sorts of patterns after I've used it but it turned out to be a dirty connection. At the bottom of the indercator stalk there are 3 copper pots that make a connection to from the indercator stalk to the steering wheel. The grease has built up on that and bridged a connection between each copper pot, make a connection so the car thinks the intercators been activated.

However, I will say it was just the clicking sounds I was having troubles with and the indicators were not actually flashing like yours, but I thought I would tell you this as it may be a simular problem. And I've known the toe bar connection to cause this problem also.

Hope this helps :)

Hi Adam,

I am experiencing the same issue... At the risk of sounding lazy (as I'm sure I can work it out myself) can you tell me how you rectified the issue - stalk removal etc....?

Thanks,

Ali

Hi Ali

I found it a right mission to remove the stork so I didn't. I removed the steering colum case to give a bit of space to work with and just sprayed some solition (like WD40) to clean it out while moving the indercator stalk up and down. This fixed it for me and still fine to this very day. Very simple actually.

Hope this helps you
