Immobilser light/key

I bought a Leon with only one key so go Timpsons to cut another one. Unfortunately they couldn't code the key to my car but left me with they key which I took to the dealer to be programmed (I don't have my SKC).

Anyway I took it to the dealer today but they failed to code the key as apparently the system could read the SKC code but not reporgram the immobiliser to accept the key. Even worse now the immobiliser light is on constantly with the original key but the car seems to drive fine. Any advice appreciated!

Thanks

The new key has a chip.

I'm worried now that the immobiliser light is on constantly when driving with the original key..

Dealer has done half a job and needs to finish it off. Should not have let the car out with the immobiliser light showing.

As far as I know, the light is telling you that someone has tried to start the car with a non-matched key. Dealer should have wiped that code. Perhaps you could find another dealer? or an independent VAG specialist?

Where did you get the second key from? If it has been matched to another car already, then it won't let itself be matched with another car as far as I know. You will need a new immobiliser chip.

I'm going to try and wipe the code with vag.com when I get home and see if that clears the light when using the orignal key. Hopefully the dealer hasn't left me in a worse position I was in before I took the car into them! The only thing they suggested was to book the car in with them for another day and let them diagnose the problem (maybe with the dash). I'm not too keen to do this at their labour rates!

The second key was brand new from timpsons.

Update: Got back to the car a couple of hours later and both keys work fine!

Looks to me like the dealer didn't know how to close down the key programming mode which caused the immobiliser light to stay on, then the car shut it down by default after a period of time! Glad I didn't let them rip out the dash like they suggested!

Just need to program the new remote now..

There is a guide (I think on here) that shows you how to program new remotes to the car.

If I remember correctly, you put your old key in the ignition and put it to the first turn.

Open the drivers window, and get out the car.

Put the new key in the drivers door and lock the car manually with the key.

Take it out the lock and you should be able to open the car again with the button on the new remote.

But I'd double check that with a wee search.
