Would you buy an 8v with the intention of it being a track car? The price is decent, 100k engine but its been looked after, cosmeticaly its abit rough in places but theres no sign of the dreaded rust..........oh and its my old car.

There is a cracking 8v on ebay at the moment, a copper one...its only 70 odd tho.
Is being reunited with your old car such a good thing.
think of it like a bird that you split up with and now she wants to get back with you ..Yes she's been looked after very well.....but someone else has been driving her every day and god knows what they did to her...and the worse thing is you will never know !!!!!!!
do you want to find out a bit about her past one day in front of your mates ????

Track screamer i'd probably use a 16v. However if i had to drive it to the track, then drive it home still working it'd be an 8v

Well i've only had boy racers interested so far (its been advertised elsewhere) and i've refused them all a look! Quote 'your car looks well wikid man, would a cherry popper fit and is it well faster than a VTR?'. Having heard this i told him he wanted a Saxo!
I want it to go to an enthusiast so if it doesn't sell i'll keep it another 12 months, keep looking after it, put another 10k on the clock and re-advertise cheaper.
So you may get your shot at owning her in a year.
The car i'm being offered to replace it is silly cheap so i may still buy it and use it as a hack and keep the GTi for fun and only use it at weekends until next year. Then i'll look at selling both at the same time.
I guess given the uncertain economic times it would be nice to have some cash in the bank as a cushion though.
