What RPM do your Cupra's idle at from cold?

Mine hits around 1200, but then eventually drops to 1k ish.

Is this normal as my megane never did this

Hi all,

I'm a new member to this, had My LC for 7 months from new... love it! Had to take it on a UK tour the first week to run it in, managed 1,500 miles....

anyway, back to your point, mine does exactly them same and it is the automatic choke and mine does sometimes idle a little 'lumpy', however this is quite common as far as I am aware within the VAG group engines.

Cool, that's ok then. It didn't do it when i picked it up or did the test drive so they must have run the engine before i arrived.

yeah mine does that to but drops to about 400,sounds like engine is going to blow up,then shoots back up to about 1200,then down and up and down and on and on.The dealers changed the maf but it still happens now an then, which is very :censored: annoying.

I got rid of my lumpy tickover by using BP petrol (Ultimate I think it's called) the 97 RON stuff. The lower quality 95 RON isn't actually only 2% lower quality it is quite rough. Someone is bound to tell me what the difference is. Slightly off topic my bike which has a V-twin fuel injection 1000 cc, does the opposite, it ticks over smooth on the lower RON fuel - strange that.

ive heard about that bp stuff,it really does make that much of a difference does it? i have always used sainburys super unleaded which is again 97 ron, if the ron is the same you would think they would work the same dont you

The higher the ron value the quicker and more powerfull the explosion is within the engine, in Europe most petrol is 97 ron, it is only in England that we have the option of using a lower ron fuel. (I am 95% sure this is correct, feel free to inform me if I'm not)

I have heard of people using an evebn higher ron level on cars... when I was part of a calibra group they often experimented with 100 ron fuel, however I beleive this starts getting a bit tough on the the engine. Plus its obviously not availible on your forecourt. I try and run mine on the super unleaded, and I honestly believe I can feel a difference in response.

The Ultimate fuel from BP has other additives as well to clean teh engine, which you won't neccesarily get with a normal super unleaded.... on my V6 calibra I would often run it on the super and shove a bottle of redex performance enhancer in the tank as well... the results were good! Halfords used to do a selection of fuel additives to enhance performance. Albeit I haven't checked there for a long while to see if they still sell them.

Anyone else have any tips on squeezing extra performance out of the car without neccesarily fiddling with the engine? I don't want to void my warranty....

Have a little bit of a search of the ENTIRE SCN, and in general chat (i think) you will find a very recent thread about shell stopping optimax (98ron) and offering 100ron petrol in the near future.
You can also search and find threads by me asking about lumpy idling etc, and replacement mafs etc that havent sorted the "problem".
Lots also mentioned on octane boosters etc.

I recommend BP ultimate and optimax - try 'em and you should notice a difference. However, I dont always run on them as at the mo the prices are a little too steep for me :(

Seems this is an old topic.... have had a search on google too, lots of car forums discussing the same topic.

Does anyone know when the 100 Ron fuel will be on the petrol forecourt?

pabs, ive read most for your posts about the lumpy idle and i have a few parts on order i.e grounding kit, one of those boost valves (forgotten the name of um). Taking this lumpy idle back to the fuel,i wonder if changing the main fuel pump to a more uprated sport type would help? iam sure maybe demon tweaks or alike would sell them.My car, when running lumpy from cold, always gives out a petrol, almost sweet sort of smell? is that common?

cant say i've noticed a smell tbh. although i probably dont pay much attention as i dont have windows open very often.

Grounding kit etc - well not sure if it works or not really - although hey, for £25 or whatever its worth a go.
I would definately say with 100% confidence that changing from morrisons petrol to optimax/bp helped more so than anything else i have done.
