Idle Speed and cutting out

Hi, I think I've got some kind of air leak on my ibiza. I've had a couple of problems with it which I think are linked:
1. When idling all of a sudden the car just decides to cut out, then it takes its time to start but eventually will start and run perfectly.
2. When idling suddenly the revs will shoot up to around 5000 revs and stay there, the car will drive and then the revs will go back to normal within a couple of minutes. The accelerator peddle presses itsself down when this happens but once entered into gear drives fine!

On vagcom the only fault that appears is the coolant sensor which I've replaced now. Any help please? I'm wondering about the idle control valve? Anyone know where this is?

Regards

Rob

I had similar symptoms on my old polo gti (1.6 16v), turned out to be the crankshaft (speed) sensor...get it to a garage for a diagnosis or ask someone nicely on here whos nearby :)

Thanks mate but I think I might have diagnosed it, I've vagged it again today and think I've found the fault:
00516 - Closed Throttle (Idle) Position Switch (F60)
30-10 - Open or Short to B+ - Intermittent
Does anyone know where this is on the ibiza and what the problem could be?

Rob.
