my car seems to be running bit rough... when im sat at idle at the lights the revs seems to twitch and it revs the engine! my feet are well clear of the GO peadle and everyone i pull up next too thinks im looking to race,it might sounds funny but its really not when its 7 in the morning and im heading for the office... had some guy in a golf this morning giving me real evil looks!!!!

any light on this wee problem would be nice!

thanks kev

i am interested as well as my revs are not smooth when idle, plus mine has a habit of cutting out when fairly cold as well

hi duno if its the same problem but i got a 1.4 ibiza which used to have bad idling problems:
when coming to a standstill the revs used to drop right down and then recover. sometimes it wud jus cut out.
Bought an induction kit off of david_mckellar on here and it has sorted it out. Getting rid of the old bog standard air intake has really helped the engine breathe. running excellent now. its jus literally a large open air filter which bolts straight onto the throttle body.
iv got a big dustbin lid pipercross induction filter.
Duno if it will have the same effect on ur engines if they r not 1.4s. also prob a good idea to check the timing professionally.

thanks essexibiza, I already have a carbonfibre forced induction fitted, the issue has only happened last few weeks and is already driving me nuts and doesnt seem to have been caused by any change to the engine!

thanks for the reply, may still get it checked out. i know the hot air intake pipe was falling apart so i replaced it about 2 weeks ago by one from gsf, but still having issues

might get it checked, and get an induction kit then

One thing to check is the ISV (idle stabalisation valve)

They have a habit of clogging up over time. On a 16v they are underneath the cover for the leads at the bottom of the inlet manifold. Check all vacums as well as this can cause it.

If clogged up they can be cleaned but its well worth getting a new one, all VW engines have pretty much the same ISV.

8 valve's are on top of the rocker cover i believe, usually have a plug and a pipe coming off them and they sit into the inlet.

Hope this helps. Ben
