id say petrol as its so fun to drive if you like exhaust note engine note dv noise and things like that but both are great in there own way! had to put bit of support up for the 20vt!

Gaz, i assume you have never driven a Tdi with a full system on.

i swear my tdi is louder than my Petrol was, even i was shocked at how loud is getting, from behind the car on idle it sounds positively rally slag, a very nice burble on idle, which turns into crazy high pitched turbo boost wail when you give it some lick. Plus pretty sure on the spaniels video he gets a nice wastegate chatter on lift off.

I test drove both the 130 PD tdi FR and the Cupra tdi on saturday... both very good cars, the Cupra was outstanding and the FR was great too, but I am biast as we drove Cupra first...

Both were good on acceleration, didn't sound like a diesel once you were moving and were comfy too...SEAT diesels do seem very good... if not a little pricey...

Mate the Cupra Tdi is the same price as both the 1.5 Reanult clio DCi and the 1.6 207 Hdi at 15300, so cupra looks a bargain to be honest

Yeah looking at it that way compared to other cars of equal value, the benefits are clearly with the Cupra... suppose all I meant was £15000 is still £15000 :(

When you have a budget of £8-9K then £15000 seems a bit over the top

Still... going to look at a PD130 sport on saturday... cant wait... 196bhp and 330lbft :-o

I've just changed my leon 20vt for an altea tdi with dsg and I'm extremley impressed at the levels of torque and economy. Just plant your foot and you'll pull away from most cars whilst still doing 40-50mpg!!!

I'd never driven a diesel before in some 20 years of driving having been put off by the tractor noises, smoke etc but as I've discovered, diesels have come a long way and are now a far better proposition to run and own than petrol cars.

Ok top end speed is not as high as petrol variants but lets face it, how often do you need to go above 130mph?

ive been in spaniels a fair bit and yes it is loud but im on about the type of note it gives off in the petrol! both cars are great no doubt about it which every you were to get you will like it!

When I get mine its definately gonna be a TDi cupra especially for the fuel cost saving and for the performance as its gonna whoop any petrol car (in the same price range) that i've ever driven, and i've been driving petrol since i could drive, this is gonna be my first diesel and I am definatly not regretting my descision

I bought mine on the spur of the moment after testdriving it. I saw it tested in Evo and they liked it, but it was £15000!!!!

I thought a diesel hot hatch for £15000 rip off. Thought I'd test drive it, and 3 weeks later had ordered one!! Didnt even have the money to pay for it, so stuck it on my morgage

Anyway 2 years now, and I still love it! Its sitting on my drive shining in the sun, and looks a beast. People still look at it, as its so rare on the roads (round by me anyway)

Plus i love making soot clouds in it!!!

45MPG on the way to work today, due to a sore ankle, then 29MPG on the way home :hide:, as my ankle is better"!

I can see myself keeping this for quite a while. Big turbo, Diff and Clutch is next for me.

And Ant.... your not wrong about a straight through exhaust. Really sings upwards of 2000RPM
