I've got that got, standard fr though not black, and I think it's great

I came from a suzuki swift sport so can compare it that.

I find it a lot more comfortable than the swift, it also feels much faster in day to day driving with the torque. I've done 1000 miles so far and I've had 50mpg out of one of the tanks, so it can economical when needed.

I plan on getting it remapped or a tuning box fitting in the near future which I'm hoping will make it a lot more lively

yeah the handling is not as good, the swift was the best handing car I've driven, was like a go kart and encouraged you to go faster and faster in the bends!

The ibiza still does handle very good, I was driving a little i10 the other day and it made me realise how good it does handle! I was after a slightly more relaxed drive though which I think the ibiza does very well when not booting it, I can't remember a time when I wasn't booting the swift, felt like the only way to drive it haha

I'm really torn between the cupra and the fr black? I don't know whether you would be able to get the engine in the fr black up to the same standard as the cupra? If you get what I mean? It's obviously not going to be the same engine is it?

No its a different engine yeah, from a remap you can gain around 35hp I think and more torque. Which would probably be about as fast as the cupra, but all depends if you want to go down that route.

Cupra only has the dsg box so depends how you feel about that too

Yeah, the manual would be more fun and that, but it just won't have the capabilities of the cupra engine would it. I'm going to drive a cupra tomorrow, so I'll see what I think about the dsg but I've heard nothing but good things about it, what's the best year to go for in the cupra/boc?

Yeah just have a drive see what you prefer, I didn't test drive a cupra in case I liked it too much, I didn't want to pay the extra haha

I've read that 11 plate onwards are more reliable, but I personally have no idea

I think the ACT engine has more torque than the cupra engine so with a remap it should easily match a standard cupra.

If you're buying new you might want to wait until the 1.8 tsi cupra comes out later this year. Heard that engine maps up to 240-250 BHP no problems.

Yeah and that'll be next to impossible for me to get insured on haha! How have you managed to get xenons on your Ibiza fr black? Didn't think it was an option!

They're great to drive mate, depends on your personal preferences I suppose. They're very quiet/refined so don't expect much engine noise if that's your thing. I found them surprisingly tourqey for a small petrol engine so they're quite usable without having to rag on it a lot. If you need/want to though they can shift a bit when required.

The clutch, gear change and steering are very light but still precise enough.

Like I said mate, it depends on what you like and are used to. What do you drive now?

I drive just a 1.4 sportcoupe, but want more power! I like the engine noise you get from the cupra, but the power difference from the cupra to the fr is quite a bit isn't it?

I've just got a FR Black 1.4TSi.

I love it. The engine has loads of torque all over the rev range and from the lightest of a throttle press. It's a subtle sounding car but it has a really nice grunt which just resonates in the back of your head and it's addictive. For a small engine I'm really, really surprised how it pulls. I was thinking of a re-map straight away but i'm really happy as it is.

It has more torque than the Cupra and a remap and some breathing mods should see it biting on the Cupra's heels. Although I would have gone for Cupra if they did a manual.

Handling is a bit wallowy, considering how stiff the suspension is; but most sporty VAG cars are like this.

I've come from a 285bhp Audi TT Quattro Sport by the way - I don't really miss it as the Ibiza has so much more usable power.

This has really helped me, thank you! But I do really love the dsg box, and the sound the cupra delivers!

I suppose it's what you want out of a car.

The FR 1.4 ACT is a good all rounder. It's not bad looking, fairly quick/nippy, comfortable, economical and cheap to run. A jack of all trades but a master of none.

The Cupra is more purposeful. Sporty, aggressive and less forgiving - It's loud and brash. Brilliant.

Me, I have a MK1 Golf in the garage waiting for a fruity engine conversion, it's a weekend toy and I don't mind if it's thirsty, aggressive, loud, brash etc - It's a plaything for those days when I want a bit of fun. The FR is a daily - comfortable, nice looking, easy to drive, cheap to run, tax and insure. but quick enough so I don't get bored.

My TT was balls out fun, but driving to and from work on Sheffields finest pot holed roads, sat in start stop traffic getting 12mpg started to take it's toll. That's where the FR comes in.

I've got an FR black 1.4 act picked it up in May this year and I've justo r it back from having it re-mapped with revo, and even before having it mapped it had such a nice genuine pull was comfy to drive, corners well and sticks to the ground, not a lot of movement in it when going round roundabouts or country roads etc, the seats are comfy too! It's very responsive on the pedal as well so it will pick up say your in the wrong gear and in trouble, in the near future I'm looking to get it lowered to test what it's fully capable off!
