Out of curiosity how many of you use standard petrol compared to higher octane petrol ? And is there a real benefit using the higher octane petrol ?

I'm just using standard 95 octane petrol - quite a large price difference between this and the higher octane. Super unleaded near me is 15p a litre more than standard unleaded. Given you need at least two fill-ups with the higher octane for the ECU to adapt the timing etc I will wait for someone else to advise!

I filled the tank with the higher octane last time. The price difference is small here 5 cent per litre.

What does the handbook recommend? The compression ratio (10:1) is pretty high for a turbo.

My last tank full was Shell V-Power but I didn't notice any difference whatsoever (1.0TSI). Just filled up with Jet 95 RON. I'll be using anything as long as it's from a branded forecourt and not a supermarket :)

Side note, loving the available torque on the 1.0. Pulls brilliantly compared to the 1.2 TSI!

Ideally you need a couple of tank fulls to get the performance boost - from what i have read and watched, and this depends on the engine and its management software, you should expect a 4-6% improvement in power output.

Glad you still like the 1.0 - loving mine still. The engine is freeing up a little now (1600 miles) - sounds good too.

I've used 99RON from new so have no idea how much difference it makes, always used it in the VXR so just carried on as its only a couple of quid per tank.

My MPG is now improving. Found it relatively easy (didn't have to try *too* hard) to get an average of 50MPG this morning on the run to work (complete urban trip). Bearing in mind, this is only the third time I've filled up with fuel :)

Very good!. Have you done a brim to brim comparison - actual vs computer calculated consumption? I've done that on all my cars - some computers are spot on, but my wifes Suzuki Swift is ridiculously optimistic, and my mates Passat optimistic too.

When watching the video above, I came across the https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYlk9C1o0nk. Not all applies to us (it's Australian), but it's BS free, and fun as well as informative.

I've started using BP ultimate in my VXR recently - my MPG has jumped a massive 4mpg in the last few fill ups a result! Will defs continue to use it when my ibiza arrives - In my VXR i am lucky to get 280 miles to a full tank and last one i was easily pushing 325 miles - so its definitely worth the extra money!

The price difference between the 95 and 98 octane petrol is the same here in Estonia too, the fuel only costs much less here, around 1,03 (95) vs 1,08 eur/L (98). My Seat dealer suggested to use only 98 in a Cupra so I'm following that advice.

Any of you guys that have your cars getting a build up of soot/black deposit around the tailpipe?

I don't remember this happening on my 1.2 TSI from new...
