hello peeps, to start off with i have a 99 mk 2 ibiza 2.0l 16v gti cupra sport and it's occasanly cutting out on me

i have searched and none of the problems that other people describe are the same as mine so thorght i would start a new tread

right somtimes for no reason what so ever when i put my foot on the accelerater it will splutter and loose power, but if i put imy foot flat to the floor it will clear but as soon i take it off it will do again and eventally cut out.

when i try and start it again it may take a couple of seconds but it will always start with a strong smell of fuel and then be fine,it does do it few and far between but has recently started doing it a bit more than usual.

it is usally at the start of a jorney as well which makes me think it's not the coil but am not sure,im thinking it's flooding cuz also it seems to do it if your just driving round normal and slow if your nail around like a joyrider it dosent seem to do it.

anyways sorry for the essay but just wanted to try and shed some light on the subject before i start randomly changing bits
muchos thanks griff

well sounds like your throttle body might be filthy, mine was!

buy some carb cleaner from halfrauds, and take off the pipe on the the TB, and start car and spray LOADS in, the can is cheap, so best starting point (as it will need cleaning if it hasn't been) :)

Your problem sounds spookily yhe same as the one I had a while back. On my cordy 2.0 16v Sx/ABF. Crank speed sensor/engine speed sensor was the culprit after numerous guesses. Was always ok on cold start worse once warmed up (explains why on beginning of journeys). Sometimes started straight away sometimes 5 mins (sometimes next day! once cooled) Spluttered/stalled etc. Once changed (£100 all in) been perfect! Was a royal pain solving. Hope this helps!

I had the same, changed plugs, leads, coil, even put a whole new distributor on it and eventually turned out to be the crank sensor, no problem since....

my 2.0 8v is doin exactly the same thing, however in february i had the distributor cap, coilpacks and rotor arm replaced whilst in for a full service, none too happy that after just a few months this problem has occured.
