Hi all,

New to this Seat forum 'hoot' but not new to VAG, owned mk1, mk2 Golf and Polo G40 but now in need of a new car for reliability reasons. Decided against mk4 Golf as its a lard ass that doesnt handle and now after its sportier cousin.... Seats Ibiza cupra!

Firstly I dont want to buy a nail, I know how to check over a general car but wondering if theres any "common" or "re-occuring" problems which I should look out for with the Cupras themselves??
Doesn't matter how small all info helps guy's!??

Secondly all these re-mappers CLAIM there products best, Ive heard Custom code and Jabbasport are the boys for mapping but what are your views? 1/4 mile times along with hp and torque figures would be really handy if you have them!??

Im only going to re-map car and fit a DV and it'll be standard apart from this so please bear this in mind when quoting me figures, ie I'd like to know what I can get out of a standard car?

This thread is also on Seat enthusiasts so sorry if you have to read it twice! lol, but seriously all info is greatly appreciated. Ta again fred.

They all say that at first, then the curse of SCN takes over.

Maf failures, wheel bearings, suspension wear, wishbone bushes all need a good look over

Coil packs are also a common fail, as is becoming more common, the clutch pedal assembly, breaking.
Also the plastic impellors on the water pumps, but should be ok once replaced with the metal version.

I've had my car a year and half, now, and touch wood, have had no serious problems with it at all.

There are so many flash remap's available, all have their own supporters, its a difficult one to choose mate!

Clutch pedal as Tom said will go if it hasn't already so worth checking!
Other small niggly faults.. Boot sometimes won't open, ambient temperature sensors fail and read silly figures -20degrees etc. which in turn will affect your air con. Worth checking on the display that all is ok.

Wow...

That was quick guys thanks! Are there any tell-tail signs off failing Maf's and Coil packs?

Im assuming when you say clutch pedal assembly you mean as you say... by just sticking your peepers under the dash to make sure all is together?

Keep it coming....

Thanks again fred.

Its been asked more times than jordan being called a slag!
You wont get a definitive answer, you'll get good and bad reviews on most of the remaps available.
I've read both good and bad about Revo, and a few others.
Ive got an Oettinger chip, and had no problems at all, but have heard about people who have.

Revo, and Custom Code seem popular at present.

There are also the ones who you dont hear much about, but are big companies, Oettinger, APR, AMD, Giac.......to name the ones i can remember LOL.

Revo do a 5 hour trial, so you could try.

But i aint gonna say, yes this is the one for you, and then you not be happy. I'm sure you would with which ever one you pick.

Your best bet would be to do some research, looking at the ones your interested and then narrow them down as you go.

If your looking to upgrade in the near future, you can simply with revo, and maybe a few others.

Personally i wouldnt get a Revo, and honestly i dont know why! Its just something, like the reason i dont like horses or Madonna. Just never have!

It appears most of the re-mappers offer a standard re-map and then say a stage 2 or carried out on the rollers. Is it worth splashing for these?
Thanks.

Agreed with all of the above.

Mine has had a new MAF, changed the clutch to VR6 with Rallye flywheel, had metal impellor mod done on water pump, and its mapped by Jabba etc...

Will be for sale shortly too

Freddy: PM me if you haven't got one yet.

Mark.

There is an improvement although it is slight. Makes the car feel lighter somehow. It also gives me the confidence to launch harder.

I wouldn't bother upgrading unless yours is slipping. Jabba supplied and fitted, I just sat and watched :smoke:

Hi
The majority of remaps are generic.
This is the Phase 1 with Custom-Code.
Plug in and download the information and away you go and play.
With us the Phase 2 is a total custom remap.
We do not go on to the rolling road to do this as you cannot take in to account bends , curves potholes tec.
So our Phase 2`s are done on the road!
These are excellent for any vehicles that have had modifications done to them.
But if your car is standard go for the Phase 1 and hold on to your hat!!
You will love it!!! The silly grin is a give away.
www.custom-code.co.uk is our web site.
If I can help just let me know.

But what if the pot holes and Bends are different to the ones where the car is used 99% of the time, and what about if the car goes abroad, the pot holes will be on the wrong side of the road for a start.:funk: :p

:wtf: So does this mean custom code will automatically change the boost/timing/fuel etc characteristics of the Mapp when it gets near a pothole, curve or bend..................CLEVER STUFF

I can see an opening now. Due to Custom code/ Jbs autodesigns requiring pot holes and bends to carry out phase 2 live road mapping we require 1 man and his pick axe to recreate real life road surface conditions.

Also wont the cars under perform on the rollers due to the lack of bends and Pot-holes. Talking of Pot u guys down at Jbs been taking a Friday afternoon toke.:p

It is Friday afternoon were allowed a little leg pulling.:D
