My missus has got a 06 seat ibiza 1.4 sport, its the 75 bhp engine.
I was just wondering what can be done to give it a bit more go? It's fine if you rev in hard but the low end lacks torque, you seem to need to change down all the time when it should really be able to pick up again.
Any help would be great.

Thanks
Jamie

don't know if this will help, but i have the 100hp 1.4 petrol and it suffered from the symtoms you are decribing (no low down power), i told the garage about this and they updated the software on the ecu as this is a known problem on this engine. I have to admit, i did'nt expect much, but the difference really is noticable, pulls much better on the motorway and not as much hestitation when pulling out from roundabouts and junctions

in all honesty jay (presuming thats your name :) )
absolutely nothing worth the money. theres no bang for buck mods for the 1.4 engine.
i can recommend the green panel filter tho lets it rev more freely. and they have to be revved to get anything from them.

it probably seems under-powered due to you driving a diesel? :)

It does compared to mine yea, but i had a 1.2 punto sporting before and even that seemed more torquey than her ibiza. I have looked into remapping it but you only gain like 4bhp or something silly like that.
Thanks for the help.

ours was exactly same then i fitted a induction kit and serviced the engine as well as changing sparkplugs. now it pull great. cant really expect more from this size engine.

How do I get the ECU upgrade? Do I just go in to a dealer and ask for it? I have a 1.4 Formula Sport on a 57 plate.

I'm gonna try a panel filter, cos i'm suffering from this problem too! Its fine after the revs pick up but taking over people and pulling out of junctions seems to give a lag before the revs pick up.

your still under warranty so just ask about it at your dealer, it should be free as well

Yeah... a knock/squeak haha! I can move my engine with my hands and it squeaks so I'm certain its that.

I also have some nice crunching on full lock, not sure what that is! It only really does it if the cars suspension has to move during full lock (like coming off a kerb). Any ideas?

Well, depend if you want to spend a bit on money on it or not.

If you don't, just go with a panel air filter or BMC (or something like this) to make the engine to breathe better.
If your car is stil under warranty, do the ECU upgrade.

I've try the 100hp when my car was still stock, the 100 hp seems less torquey than mine (doing 75hp). 100Hp revs higher than the 75.

have a look at the post on my car : http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=275933
bigger mod to gain HP and a bit of torque was : dynamic air box, full exhaust, ECU remap. End up at 86.
Why not more? well, our intake on the 75 restrict the air flow, and injector can't get more fuel as well.

I got ready to be mounted (after some cleaning), the intake and throttle body of the Fabia 1.4 100, same engine as ours, with apparently bigger injector than on the ibiza 1.4 100. More air to come.
I just need to buy some news joints, EGR line (different position than with my actual) and the camshaft of the 100. A new remap, and let's got Hp and torque. But it's not given as you think.

Also, run the car on Premium gas, it help than cheap gas with low Octane, my 2 cents here.

In my owners manual it says to use 98 octane :) But I can't afford the petrol prices so I run standard 95 octane. I'm only a student at college and don't really have a good income.

I will find something! I want a cold feed into my air box tbh! But I want a clean install and thought using a PD130 intake would look better.

We'll see what happens. :)

Where in the manual does it tell you this?? wonders if thats why im suffering with lack off power till revs build up, will try 98 octane instead off cheap 95 octane supermarket fuel and see if it inproves it

I've tried the Tesco 99 crap and can't say I noticed too much of a difference. But thats only from half a tanks worth.

If you get your manual its on the last section, where it says what engines the Ibiza comes in. It near where it has the BHP values.

It says use 95 or 98 octane only. Every other petrol engine but the 1.8T says 95 octane only.

I hope the ECU upgrade isn't to make the engine better suited for 95 octane :|

dont think the updated software has anything to do with fuelling, more with how the accelerator responds

Notice any change in MPG?
At the moment my MPG is unbelievably bad! I drive it as careful as possible around town and I'm lucky to get 42mpg. If I drive normally I get 30mpg. That isn't good for a 1.4! At this rate i'll be selling up for a diesel.

I have looked at the air filter and it is pretty dirty but not so much to cause a problem. Gonna buy a Green Cotton jobbie to make sure anyway.

The 1.4 16v Sport engines only do 31mpg thats why according to the spec (most ive ever got was 38mpg) i didn't know this untill i bought one or i wouldn't have had it as it drinks fuel like theres no tomorrow.................i miss my diesel :(
