hi just got the car delviered about a month ago now after ages of waiting.. love the car to bits.. the only problem is the engine.. very lazy for a 1.4. i know its still new but was thinking of chaning the engine in a year or so.. can a cupra engine or a golf gti do the trick? Im referring to the 1.8 20v turbo. what would I need to change apart from engine, gearbox and ecu? will I run into any complications with the airbags and electronics? would I also need to change disk brakes? and since i got drums at the back can these be changed to discs also? people will say save, sell and buy a cupra.. forget it lads as they dont come over here and even if they do it would be too expensive to import one any way. for malta its a rip off to import a car let alone the amount of tax we pay.

please any pros let me know if they have done such a change over of an engine and what needs to be sorted.. being a glanza owner for two years going to this change I must say f**k what a difference engine wise.

thanks in advance

i have a 1.2 mate and done it up and it looks like the cupra exactly apart from the engine, i have put thought into doing this in the future when i can insure, wherther i do it or not is irrelevant just now, but i suppose u will need to change the suspension, brakes, gearbox, engine, shocks, ecu,

How many times are people going to ask about changing and engine??? :censored:

To sum it up, you would have to change.... Engine, engine mounts, gearbox, suspension, ecu, fuel delivery system.... and so on. Plus your insurance will love you for doing it! ££££

It will cost more money than a new car will, and will take too long to do.

to answer most of your questions which i really dont see the point why you are getting so pissed off in the first place mate.. first off the way things work over here are much more different than they do in England. for example insurance wise it will hardly effect me at all where as im currently paying 250 euros a year for my insurance on a 1.4 liter car upgrading an engine would maybe cost me an extra 150 euros which would make it a tops of 400 euros a year.

to make things even worse when i went to the dealer due to the launch of the new model there was a run out version being sold by the factory and the only engine being offered was the 1.4 so i opted for it. i also considered buying the car as i have read loads on it and know that they are solid and good quality cars. they never had any in stock for me to take one for a test drive so i was left with a choice of ordering one or take a mark 5 model which in all honesty the looks of it suck big time (sorry for the mark 5 fans) but that is my opinion.

I may understand that it might be a hell of a job yes but really how hard really is it to change an engine? although i understand its not a walk in the park but im sure it can be done by a guy who knows what he is doing. im no expert myself and have a lot to go. all im asking is an opinion and some tips so i can put everything together and sum it up in the end. ooo and bdw search doesnt help much just for you to know!

the other problem I would think might be finding a donor engine in good nick, I'd imagine a scrap yard would be the first place to start but....it's a scrap yard, not as if you can get a service history with it, then there is eBay I would think the shipping cost to Malta would be about the same cost as an engine, and most of them usually are pick up only...
