Ibiza 1.2 Heater Problem

Just joined this forum having purchased (last week) an early 2003 Ibiza 1.2. Fun car and good fuel consumption compared to previous cars.

However, I have noticed a problem with the heater. Blows out hot air even when turned to cold and the air con makes no difference - still hot. If it is set to about 18 degrees before starting the car then it keeps an even temperature - but turn the knob whilst driving - and then it gets hot and nothing I can do will get it cooler

I have read previous threads about the controls and think the most likely fault is the control flap which seems to be a very expensive job to have done - dashboard off (days work) and then about £80 for a new part.

Also I have read that I should get it plugged into the VAG computer which will be able to diagnose if there is a fault. One reply mentioned that the plug in might get it sorted anyway.

Summary - anyone out there who has had the same problem and found the answer?

Yep and as you've already stated - the control flaps behind the dash are the problem, the temp control flap lives right in the centre of the dash and it has to be removed to replace it, even if you have the faults checked - erasing them alone or resetting the basic settings often does nothing and a replacement is required.

Thanks for the reply. I will contact the dealer from whom I bought the car and see what he says - if anything!!!
