Could be an excuse to have an LSD fitted if you go the repair route :)

lol, sorry to laugh but where to seat get their figures from! who in their right mind would pay £1600 for a new gearbox on an Ibiza!
I paid almost that on a 23 month old Renault Clio Grande 1.2 in 2001 while I was waiting for my next car to arrive back then, and that was after a day of phoning around!! Renault wanted more like £2700... 9 hour job tho iirc... no 2nd hand or recon boxes available!

So £1600 from a dealer for an Ibiza Cupra box doesn't sound too terribly bad... in comparison!

Only 1 problem with buying a 2nd hand box - how do you know it's going to be ok?? Always a worry!!

Quicker acceleration in the G60 one Bill?? (and lower top speed?)

I wonder if replacement of a gearbox on an ibiza is similar to a cossie?
Cos i've done a cossie one, and that wasnt difficult (apart from the big fat heavy gearbox on the cossie) I mean swapping them, and not rebuilding.

Its a bit fiddly..
the worst part of it is the drive flanges fouling on the engine block so you have to rotate it a bit as you pull it away.

buying a 2nd hand box maybe buys you the same problem tho.
is it worth the risk?

I dont know all the ratios in the boxes, but my 16v 02A is lower geared yes than my 02J was.

Cheers for all your help guys, i'm proper stuck on this, i'm ok with little things but this have hit me for 6 don't even no where to start...

Thought i'd get a price from Seat just to see what they were offering, but no way on this earth am i even thinking of paying that..

I'm gonna look for a re-con box and see where to go from there. Only prob i've got is cos i use Seat for other stuff i don't really no any other specialists garages. Can anyone reccommend anyone, i'm in Stroud in Gloucestershire??

Oh my! Sorry to hear that Amie :(

As mentioned by 'Flapper' i'd give THESE guys a call. Tell them the story and that SEAT are robbing ba*tards! And they should hopefully help you out.

Hope you get it sorted soon.
