I know cars are nightmare's sometimes, and i wasn't that naive to think i could go all the way without having to dip into the savings, but its still a real pain!
I wouldn't mind half as much if i wasn't saving for anything in particular, but its just such a pain.

I said to the bloke that i was saving for a LCR and this will sting a bit, and he said just part exchange it.
That wouldnt work though as the noise doesnt sound nice at all and they would research it, find out the cost to fix it and i would loose it in the exchange price, surely?

I seem to see LCR's when i feel as though im a million miles away from having enough to buy one!
Today i saw a LC but that was my original target so it still feel like its a bridge too far whenever i see one!
Silver's not my personal favourite either but it looked pretty sweet none the less!

My savings are about to take a big, big hit!
My catalyic converter core is loose, i took it to Kwik-Fit today and was given an estimation of £375 for the parts! They'll need to be fitted aswell, and the car is also due a service!
Looking at £500-£600 for the parts, then get them fitted and also service it!
Half my savings swiped away!

Keep looking for cheaper quotes.
My exhaust was an mot fail because the brackets had fallen off. I was quoted for a whole new exhaust section because the brackets are built onto it, however if you take it to someone who can weld new brackets onto the old exhaust you might save some money. Took my bill down from a lot to £10..

I will shop about, i'd be a fool not to.
The only thing is that my knowledge is pretty poor at best with mechanical aspects of cars.
I'm going into these places pretty blind and because of that the price may go up.

My nearest Seat centre wont be any cheaper i suppose will they?!

Nah I doubt it.
Take it to an independent VAG specialist, they will probably be your best bet. Kwik-fit and Seat dealers will usually try to replace faulty parts rather than repair them. Make sure you ask anyone you take it to whether it can be repaired rather than replaced.
If its the same problem I had then they will know exactly the problem because it is a pretty common fault on all golf mk4 based vehicles.

Yeah i was at first a bit miffed that i'd need 'new parts' i thought it could be mended.
Also a friend of mine had the same problem with an old car of his, he said its (the core itself) a small porcelin thing that can come loose overtime and if so, will eventually become loose enough to make a rattling sound.

Now as far as i can see (looked under the car at kwik-fit) the actual 'core's is in an awkward location, wether or not you would need to replace/fix the whole mechanism or just the 'core' i dont know.
As i said, my knowledge on mechanics is not brilliant, so i could be led along the money path if you catch my drift.

I'm based in Cambridgeshire, my nearest Seat is in Cambridge itself, i will ring them and see what they quote me. I did ask Vindis Volkswagen about something and they said they weren't allowed to work on seat's! They are considerably closer aswell! I might even try my luck with them again though.

I rang my nearest Seat dealer and he quoted me £400! So it looks like i'll probably go with them for the sake of £25 less at Kwik-Fit.
It's so annoying that i need a whole new converter when the problem is just the porcelin core!

Anyway, after getting off the phone i mentioned it to a colleague (who used to be a mechanic) and he said 'we used to get a piece of wood and a hammer, then hit the case where the core is and squash the casing against the porcelin core, job done!'
I was a little shocked by that reaction to say the least!

I couldn't do it though, when i come to sell it i'd know that the casing has just been dented with a hammer to hold the core in place!
It would solve the problem yes, but i think karma would take a big chunk out of ones behind if i bodged it!

As the title says, i think ive decided to set myself one hell of a challenge and start saving the pennies so i can buy a Cupra.

At the moment im driving a 1.6 SE 01 plate and i had to save pretty hard for that. It cost me £3,995 last Feb and it's my first car. I think it took me around 8 months to save £4000 although i did spend quite a bit at christmas, bought myself a PS3 which wasn't cheap!
This time though, i do have a car to sell which would help massively.

Insurance was a ridiculous £1200 for the year! Purely because i have no driving experience and i was 20 at the time.
With my 1 year's no claims bonus, insurance was £620 for this year. Half what i was paying last year!

I've done some insurance quotes on a cupra (180) and it's back to the drawing board at £1000-£1300 for the year! That's with 2 years no claims bonus as it will take me around a year to save enough, so if i watch myself i'll hopefully have 2 years ncb in a years time.

I've gone through the saving process before and im willing to do it again, but i was just wandering what your thoughts were really?
At 21-22 am i too young to be driving a cupra? I personally dont think so, it will be a jump or about 80bhp which is a lot, but i think quicker cars as safer in a lot of ways and i dont drive particularly fast anyway.

if insurnace is an issue do an IAM's course, that should knock it down massivly.

I'm in a bit of an awkward situation at work. I've reluctantly and unwillingly taken on a new role which i was pushed into from what was said to me.

I now understand that what was said was false, and have been trying to get out of this role ever since.
The 'MD' is the only other person who can do this new job of mine, and he knows i want out, but if i dont do it, he is in the brown stuff because he has more than enough to do.
Because of that he has to keep me doing it, and im in for the 'sweet' treatment now i think.
However....A payrise was mentioned.

Now, do i get out and go back to my original job, or take the payrise and carry on doing the new job i really don't like. I'd be a fool not to take the potential rise wouldn't i?

I'm 21, im not changing my mind. I know its going to be expensive, but bring it on!

I'd personally like to do an IAM course, if i ever get into any sticky situation's i'd like to have at least the know how to get out of it.

I know, i do feel quite privelaged to be in a strong company at the moment.

I consider this to be a matter of pride and me doing what i think is right for me.
Some of me knows that it will be making the MD's grin wider if i carry on to do this aslong as he increases my hourly rate by 50p.
