I need serious help please!

OK Here is my rather long winded story.

Wind back to September. I bought a Seat Ibiza TDI PD FR 130 from Motorpoint in South Wales, 06 plate, for £9999. When I bought the car, I bought it with Finance (as they said that it's not that expensive, and reading through all the gumpf when I got the car, it seemed OK)

Here's the major bad bit. I had no Owners Manual, or even worse Service History. Their documentation says that they have 30 days to give you the information if it sent, but if they never get it, they do not issue replacements. Now, before any of you say anything, I know at this point I should have refused the car. But I didnt.

So, 2-3 weeks later, I had a letter confirming the Finance, and it worked out at being £4,000 in Interest!! ( I got 3700 in part ex from my Skoda Octavia)

So, I took out a Loan, instantly settled the finance (so now I owe £7500 for £6750, and not £10,400 for £6300)

Now, The car had 9000 miles on the clock when I boguht it, and I just assumed that Motorpoint services the cars.

Last week I decided to ring them up again and give them hell over not giving me any books/service documents. Seat helped me out and said that they could issue replacements.

So, I rang motorpoint and gave them an earful, and they agreed to give my car a free service as they dont normally do servicing. They will also issue a replacement service document.

All well and good.

Today, I was driving home, and the car flashed "OIL" And a spanner appeared. I stopped the car thinking this was an Oil warning light (because I have no owners manual, I decided to take it very seriously)

I rang the Seat dealer near me, and he then proceeded to give me an earful about buying an import with no history.

he then states that without servicing at 10000 (I can only assume it's NEVER been serviced) that I have lost my 2 year warranty (he is convinced that it's an import)

He says that performance will be down, consumption will be down and probably thick with black heavy oil

However.

The car is not suffering with ill performance, or poor consumption, although I have had to put oil in it lately.

My other theory. I bought the car with 9000 on it. Surely, if it needed a service at 10000, it would have been warning me already at 9K (my Skoda did, and because it's all VAG i'm assuming Seats warn too)

Basically, i'm wondering whether it's been serviced at 5,000, but I can't prove it!

Looks like i'll be left with a car that I can't sell (with incomplete history) and no warranty (which peeves me off more, since Motorpoint say they give you the balance of the manufacturers warranty)

So what's my position?

Do I risk totally destorying my engine too? (and new engines dont come cheap...!!))

No, I'm having that this Thursday.

It wasn't done at 9,000 when I bought it.

If it turns out I have no warranty, I'll take it further. Much, Much further.

How many miles on the clock now?

Mine was on 39500(next service is set at 40000) and I had NO spanner or lights to say it was due soon!

15025 miles and there's a spanner on, and flashing "oil"

Never seen anything before now in the 6K i've done!

See, I should have had it serviced when I bought it!!!!!

Whats the mileage now? IIRC there is a certain amount over the mileage you can go outwith the service interval - you may make it into this category. I'm sure someone on here will be able to confirm the correct amounts.

why do you have no warrenty ive taken mine to dealers without handing in my service book and they have not asked for it also where else in europe do the sell ibiza with rhd?

Ireland, Malta apparently.

The Seat Dealer was adamant that because, he assumed, that the car has never been serviced, the warranty will be invalid.

Apparently, on Seat Ibiza FR's, the dials are white dials with white faces - what exactly does that mean?

My dials are white, with red numbers and needles. On that he assumed that the car was NOT a UK Spec car and an import (so I only get 2 years warranty)

To be honest, I DONT MIND having 2 years warranty - I saved 4 grand on the car.

However, If it turns out i've got no warranty at all, due to Motorpoint never issuing a service book and me assuming it has been serviced, then i'll be livid

Gaz, I can only assume my car has NEVER been serviced, although some of the characteristics the dealer talked about (poor performance/consumption) would mean that it's never been serviced ever. Therefore warranty kaput.

the new face lift ibiza fr has the same dials as the cupra but just with the fr badge on them, surely if its an import you can check its history with the dvla as it would have to be registered as one, and if you go to a dealer without your service history im pretty sure they wont be saying they need to see it before they will grant a warrenty claim

So unless I need a warranty claim - i'll be ok anyway (which makes sense to be honest)

Dealer says that because I'm so far over 10K, my warranty is shot.

But then he's working on assumptions and so am I.

Did Motorpoint sell you an import then?

Can you not get onto the head office and find out where/why you have no service history?

It's possible - but I can't find out on the limited information i've got.

Is having an import a problem? I've owned import cars before, and it's never been a problem. The dealer was very upset that I'd bought an import though!

I rang m/point and they say that if they are never sent the documentation, they never send it on. They also say that they NEVER ISSUE REPLACEMENTS. This makes me laugh, because as part of the finance agreement, "I have to keep the service history up to date"

If I hadn't settled the damn finance already I would be taking them up on a breach of contract from their end and getting my money back on the car altogether!

Looks like i'm stuck with it.

this is a long shot but cant seat uk ask every dealer if the car has been serviced with them as every car that goes in to a dealers for service or work will be on there computer, as i say long shot but might throw up something then you can get your service history that way

I've been trying this, and Seat fair play to them, say that their computer systems have been naffed since November. I'm hoping that will work!.

if you get it serviced now it should be fine they only change the oil and filter and look around the car! plus its a tdi and they are very strong engines and some audis go 20k between services due to using better long life oil
as you say its performing well and its an 06 model as well so its not been run for years without service
