how to identify garrett turbo

this may seem like a silly question for some of you but i bought a turbo off my m8 who had it running on his focus rs at 371bhp the thing is he said it was a gt28rs which is the same as the turbo i have on it now but this is bigger in size( intake side) and my 28rs is only rated to 340-350 bhp so im assuming its a 2871 but how do i go about finding out what model 1 it is? i would of fitted it on by now but its that big on coldside that i need to get an actuator bracket made up for it to fit my forge actuator.

it has a litle plaque on it that has a part number on also says a/r something but ill have a look later

any help or advice will be awesome cheers

Get some pics of it up gaz, Is the 71R not just bigger on the hotside though?

ok the part number is 700382-5003s and the turbo has a/r 50 on the side if any1 can help that would be awesome hope its the bigger tubby lol

Cant see that part number on the Garrett site. What size is the hotside? .64 or .86. The stamp could be on the outside or just inside the housing.

Do you have any pics too?

Just had a better look. The first 6 numbers refer to a 3071.

ooh thats good news lol, thanks for the reply m8 i have the turbo on my lap now and cant see any other number on it apart from on the side of the flange that sits on the manifold that has 449010-1 on it.

there is 2 number on the plaque thats on the turbo first is: S/N JF91159W and the one upderneath says P/N so i assume thats part number which is the number i gave you above

The 449010-1 does refer to the exhaust housing, but i cant see which one. Get some pics up of the turbo as this will help.

lol so i have a gt3071 then ill be keeping this 28rs on for now will be getting the bigger tubby fitted when i get a new manifold to fit it on as i dont think it'll fit where the current turbo is now

Today i bought a Gt3071R.
As gazcuprablk did,i have some queries!
Mine has part number 700382-5007S for the compressor housing
And 449010-1 for exhaust housing,like gaz.
I bought this turbo from authorized garrett dealer.
He told me that,
700382-5007s has excactly the same compressor and comp. housing as the 5003S.The only difference is the exhaust housing which in 5007S is 0.86AR and 5003S 0.64.
So bec he had not an available 5003S for sale,lucky me,he had a brand new exhaust housing from 5003S spare.
So he removed the 0.86ar housing and installed the 0.64.

Then after a discussion with him i found out that there are 3 kind of Gt3071 t25.
