How to adjust alternator belt tension

sprung loaded tensioner... usually.
15mm spanner on its top and turn it.. There is a hole to stick in a locking pin thru it to hold it but you can lever it to release tension, and pop off the belt and do the same to put new belt on.

If you mean that the tensioner has been "wound up" so that the belt could be removed - and then the tensioner has been released with no belt on, then all you need to do is wind it back up - jacking the car up and removing the O/S wheel and liner wil make it a bit easier if you are finding that the spanner can not get moved enough to the tensioner "wound up" enough.
