Hi guys/gals [B)] ,

I know this isnt seat related but I'm looking around for a big estate car, the audi A6 fits the bill perfect. However its a little pricey for me right now. I have dug out a high mileage 2.5Tdi Quattro that is within my budget, here are the specs.

174,000 miles / 280,026 kilometers

A6 Avant 2.5TDI 180bhp Quattro Tiptronic gearbox Leather Upholstery Climate Control Sunroof Sports suspension CD Changer Front fog lights 2 Years MOT/NCT

Its had a full service history by audi from the first owner, the second owner has the fulll history also from a back street guy he calls his uncle (ex toyota) but has all reciept etc. With this type mileage would I be crazy getting this car.

300,000 is not unheard of on that engine ! !

to me it's way too much. it's not just the engine that suffers the miles.
do you know if it's been driven motorway or town?

Jason, the run in thing at 100.000 is BS to me. It's just sellers' lies.
and then 300.000 you're talking kms or miles?

Yup - I wouldn't expect any engine to go past 200k miles / 300k km

seats will be pretty buggered, steering rack wearing - expect some massive bills

I've run two high milage cars and both started having components fail at 160-200K miles. Items like water pumps, fuel pumps, alternators, master cylinders, catalitic convertors, air-conditioning pumps etc... have a finite life, which in my exerience is about this milage. These arn't necessarily expensive, but just make sure you budget to replace a couple every year.

Ive heard 200k miles is quite common on the Tdi . Which is good as Ive done nearly 40k , and do 15k a year so should get a good few years out of her. Its more the body Im worried about , SEAT are famous for rust and water leaks :(

VW took over in 1990 or so? My 1996 ibiza had a water leak caused by corrosion in the bulkhead, but it sat out in the rain for six yearsand i see plenty of ten year old ones with no rust visible. The newer ones are galvanised so I could be keeping my car for a long time yet unless i get fed up with it.

the burbs...
I had a Passat 1.8 petrol which had 350 000 Km on it, only replacement in all that time was a battery, regrease cv joints, back exhaust box and clutch if i remember correctly, otherwise interior perfect, everything electric worked and fuel consumption was spot on. Then again I knew the first owner and the car had been well cared for. The car is still running, if you can believe that. The new owner still has the car. I would be nervous if I did not know the owner though and the ancilliary components are often the items that go, costing chunks of money.

What about a Passat TDI Estate ?

There's quite a few of those around in PD130 form.

I thought it was quite clear that it had something to do with the low frequencies,,, at least for the english-speaking ones,,,

cupra_power, 350000km and not even a cylinder wall rebuild????? at that mileage I'd expect the clinders looking more like balls than actually cylinders,,,
sure it wasn't 35000??? :D

The actual block itself will probably still be in good shape with 300Kkm. The valvetrain & tranny will probably NOT. I have seen a couple of 700+ 2.5L but they where run mostly highway and well taken care of. In all honesty I would probably pass and look for something with less mileage.

alright micky where did you get your car done, power with those mods look excellent. I'm hoping to go down the same route with the 2.5Tdi engine, but to be honest if I could get gains like you've got out of the 1.9 I might buy that instead.
