How many bhp?

How powerful is my engine?

In the manual, it says the 1.4 MPI engine is 60bhp, and that's what websites like Parkers say as well. But how can a 1.4 engine be that weak? The 1.25 Fiesta that I'm driving as a courtesy car at the moment is 72bhp but doesn't feel as fast as mine, and is smaller and presumably lighter.

Searching these forums comes up with different opinions as well, some reckon it's 60bhp, and some 75.

Can someone give me a straight answer?

if its an 8v its 60bhp if its 16v its 75bhp, I dont think they had the 16v's in the Ibiza's and only the polo's so more than likely its a 60bhp engine. And as for BHP and a 1.25 fiesta it isnt everything. I dragged a mate in my 60bhp ibiza and he had his 1.25 fiesta and it was neck and neck all the way.

Plenty of things come into play like aerodynamics, gear ratios, torque, engine management, condition of the car etc etc

I see, that's fair enough. 60bhp sounds weak as compared to what other cars get from 1.4 engines.

the 1.4 (16v sport) lump in the arosa is 100bhp, the 1.4 only came in 8v guise 60 brake though in the mark3, ive not heard of a 16v before, maybe the 1.6 though.

1.4 8v and a 1.4 16v were used in the in the Arosa

1.4 16v = approx 100Bhp

kinda meant the 16v, then the 8v for the ibiza, ivw amended post for clarity!
