how good is the standard alarm?

what features does the standard alarm have on a leon cupra
does it have voltage sensing, impact detection or lift detection

or is it just doors and motion detection?

IMHO an alarm is pretty pointless these days. May as well stick with a red flashing light and a sticker in the window that says you have an alarm. If an alarm goes off, it's ignored, so much so that thieves have been known to drive cars out of car parks with the alarm sounding and nobody reports it.

If, say, you want an audible indication that your car is being tampered with outside your house, then it may be useful I guess, but more often than not I should think any damage would already be done by the time you could get there.

If a car has a factory fitted alarm already on it then fair enough, but I wouldn't pay extra for one.

You could always upgrade the alarm and add a reputable after market variant.

A previous post said about alarms being pointless but I disagree. As long as you add the right one

I had my car broken into just before Xmas (bar stewards!!) and they must have really thought it was Xmas as my factory fit alarm had been playing up and they got in and out with no problems.

I have since added a Clifford alarm with dual zone prox and Call guard system.

I opted for the Concept 650 Mk2 with Call guard and Blackjax and digital dual zone proximity sensor.

The prox warns them away. The car texts me when its being tampered with and it also has its own code (only known to me) so even if they get my keys without the correct code the car will shut down. If this did happen all I need to do is text the car a certain code and it will text me back with its exact GPS position

Great protection and piece of mind all round

the warn away is just a 'bark' from the siren (no not a woof woof! :0) - which can go off up to four times. Enough for the rodents to walk away!

I know what you mean about the voice versions!! I saw a wee old drunk guy in Glasgow one night just wandering past a Sapphire Cossie and as his drunken 'swagger' became a full blown power 'wobble' his hip just merely touched the Cossie. The 'voice' then said PLEASE STAND BACK FROM THE VEHICLE - at which point he put down his can of beer and fish supper and proceeded to sink his boot into the door of it!! He then just picked up his grub and walked on. We stood at the window of the upstairs flat jaw open and amazed and what we had just seen! I think the 'bark' is a far safer option and less 'flash' than the voice version.

A Clifford Cat 1 alarm will stand you anywhere between £350 - 425 depending on where you go. Be very cautious of cheap alarm deals. Thats usually means the alarm will be fitted quickly and without the correct care and attention. A cheap fitted alarm will cause you nothing but grief

alarm only slows them down, not stop then nicking it because if they want they will take
