My 3 year old boy managed to remove the interior rear view mirror whilst he was pretending to drive daddy’s car. Anyone know the best way to reattach it? It’s the one auto dimming one with the rain sensor.

Cheers :)

I think it's just a double sided sticky pad (or at least on the std ones it is)

Also think you can get them from Halfrauds...

Hope none of the wires have been damaged, as that could be expensive :(

I've bought a kit from hellfrauds before that contains a thin mesh and a tube of special adhesive - worked a lot better than double sided pads ever had for me

Don't use superglue or araldite cos it doesnt expand or contract with temperature and will crack the screen! (No, I didn't do it personally!)

I've had this happen on a couple of cars. Always found the halfords sticky pads crap. I ended up getting one from the dealer. My best advice is before you stick it back on make sure you clean all the old one off and then use an alcohol based cleaner and lint free cloth. If its not totally free of grease/crap the mirror will soon fall back off.

Thanks to everyone that responded. Unfortunately none of the methods will work, having a rain sensor means that there is a thin circular bead of glue/bonding stuff that secures the mirror to the windscreen and not enough room to use any pad or glue/mesh.

The solution…

Well your not gonna believe this, but I went to the RAC fitting place in Northampton (top blokes), the only real way to permanently fix the mirror back is to get a new windscreen!!!!! A new windscreen comes with a clip that holds the mirror, this is bonded to the windscreen at the factory. Fortunately for me, I had my windscreen replaced last year by the RAC and it had a three year warranty on it, so they are replacing it tomorrow for free!
