Does your car (whatever it is) have a small flap inside, where you push the nozzle in? Like this?

Yes. That's a petrol filler neck, that's why. :D

Seriously though, if for some reason you've got a diesel car with a petrol filler neck then the hole in it is smaller than a diesel nozzle and it won't fit. Other than that I've never had any problems filling mine.

No problems here either!

Although I find that nearly every diesel pump I use leaks a bit and end up getting it on my hands. This never happened with petrol though!

Not sure if i've had it with this car but on occations if i've put the nozle all the way into the tank it would keep cuting out as if it was full.

Do you fill up from empty when this is happening?

I heard it was something to do with air pressure making it think the tank is full and cutting out.

Is it always the same petrol station?

I had the opposite problem last time I was filling, diesel spilled out everywhere and when I took the nozzle out, the tank made a gurgling noise

And i thought this was just me...!

I get this all the time when filling up, usually have to hold the nozzle in at some strange angle..

I always used to think the pump attendants were messing with me [B)]

I had the same issue the first few times i filled up my new ibiza. It'd pump then the auto-stop would cut in, rinse and repeat.
I noticed there's a little notch in the filler nozzle surround bit, lining up the bottom of the pump handle with the notch (it's about 45degree angle from the straight down position towards the rear of the car) gets the nozzle right in and i've had no issues since discovering this.

My 140 TDI does this too. When its getting nearer to 3/4 of a tank it begins to struggle going in and i have to hold the nozzel further out. Quite annoying.

Ive heard of venting the tank, but could not see the "button" that people talk of, on my car.

I have a 55 plate TDI 150 and the only pump that has ever been a problem was a lorry diesel pump. As you can imagine it comes out FAST!

Normal diesel pumps I have the pump in the tank as far as I can get it and the pump lever is fully depressed. I get 50+ litres in and it stops at the top.

Had 4 diesels for my last 4 cars, only problem I have ever had it that there is ALWAYS diesel on the pump handle. Probably caused from cars with the same problem as yours?
