holey crap really? Thats not good.

Must admit if someone hadnt told me there were fuses on top of the battery I probably wouldnt have known! I know i've seen them there, but I just wouldnt have thought about em with regards to this - I'd be looking on the side of the dash with the others LOL

Is it common for these particular fuses to blow for no reason? A bit like the central locking fuses?

ok - i've been reading the trusty Leon owners manual.

It seems there are 3 main fuses (std type) and other "metal fuses", which must be replaced by SEAT (so it says)

Is it likely to be the std type fuse thats gone? Or the metal type? Are SEAT bulls****ing about the other fuses, and can you buy them from halfauds or the like?

Pabs its the large metal one that went on mine, don't think you can get them in halfords, any VAG group dealer can supply them though.

thanks neil - makes me feel a little better.

Still going to check the fuses etc. Stick a multimeter across them. If one is blown, I'll have to get to SEAT at some point.

Cheers again peeps - will post results up later.

i had an ibiza before and the fuses on top of the battery completed melted - common fault i believe. Haven't heard of any similar problem with Leon's though. Has only happened twice with me.

Right, well peeps. Confused now.

Checked all fuses, all of them fine - did the aircon test above - both fans came on straight away. No problems. Idling on the driveway, kept it sat at 90 all the time.

Just when in traffic and sunshine, assuming exhaust gases etc making it VERY warm around the engine bay, but nothing is blown - all metal fuses are fine as well.

water pump also a potential suspect.... if fans are working

plastic impellor cracks and can spin on shaft

Nope - certainly NOT my water pump (well, i hope not) as I've just had my 60k service done and I provided a metal impellar water pump which was fitted. Also new coolant etc.. Wondering if that could have something to do with it.

well not going to be plastic impellor on metal impellor water pump ;)
assuming they used it and did'nt bag it for their toolbox... not that happens of course :hide:

what you describe does sound more like fans not kicking onto full or possible airlock.

no mate, definately swapped the waterpump over. Just hope the waterpump I provided actually worked, but I'd assume I'd have MAJOR issues in general if it wasnt working. Can't see any reason why it isnt working though.

Perhaps the new coolant has something to do with it? Might have to check to make sure the right stuff was used. But otherwise I'm a bit stumped.

When you say fan controller, wouldnt things like that pop up on vag-com? Or would I see an error for something for the increased temps?

I can only assume that the fans cut in on high speed when it gets very hot (hence why the temp falls very quickly back to 90)

Just strange, as I'd have thought all leons would do the same - and if brendy's doesnt get this hot then wondering if my fans should be cutting in at high speed at a lower temp.

G12 coolant - I hope so - can't really tell by looking at it though... :(
