Horrible Noise = Power Steering??

Morning Gents,

Just drove into work and as i arrived in the car park and turned into a space there was a horrible noise coming from the engine bay and some vibration from the steering wheel.

My instant though was Power Steering Pump or fluid? I would have though that there would be a light for the fluid being low?? If it was this should i not have seen something on the dash.

Also i have looked under the bonnet (not sure why - dont really know what i am looking at) and i can see a green cap - this looks like the power steering to me - am i right?? Its stiff to get off and i didnt want to try and force it in the little time that i had.

Anyway - long and short am i lookin in the right place? If it is the pump do i need to remortgage the house?

Cheers

Alex.

the green cap is the ps reservoir, use a knofe to unwind it, it has a dipstick inside, check level like you would oil...

if its low, top up using correct grade ps fluid.

if the pump has gone, its not a huge expense, i would say just the fluid mate, youd know if the pump had gone as the ps would fail.

Well i gained access to the Resevoir earlier - it was empty - completely. I have topped it up with some fluid from my local Skoda retailed and i can now see that there is a leak. Does anyone know if i can use the fluids that claim to stop leaks in Power Streering systems. and if so any recommendations??

Cheers

The issue is we are having a disagreement as to where the leak is coming from.

I will post a pic in the minute of where we are seeing the fluid escaping from.
