Hi

I've done a search and am pretty sure on my course of action for fixing my dead horn. Could I just confirm a few bits with people in the know though:

1) The alarm operates the horn OK so does this rule out a relay problem?
2) If the horn itself is OK and the relay is OK then it is most likely to be the switch next. If I take the airbag off can I see the switch connectors?
3) To take the airbag off I disconnect the battery then push a screwdriver in the back of the steering wheel to release the two clips. Is this correct?

Thanks for any help
D

I haven't had the wheel out of my Leon, but other cars with airbags the connector pulls off very easily by hand. Just remember to leave the battery off for 10 mins before you do it, and don't reconnect the battery while the air-bag is disconnected - unless of course you have the means to reset the light yourself.

I think you've checked all the obvious stuff, and if the horn and relay is ok - it does point towards the switch. It might not be making contact on the steering wheel ring when it trys to make eart and complete the circuit. My old Golf horn failed and there was an earth strap in the engine bay that had broken, so any earth straps could be another thing to check. Good luck with it, and happy new year to you too!

As far as I remember mate. The Leon Cupra has a separate horn for the alarm, mine did anyway. I fitted Stebel Nautilus twin compact airhorns to mine.

Relays and switches are very unlikely causes of the failure. Its an electromagnetic horn and SEAT in their wisdom decided to fit it in a way that it collects as much water as possible. The electrodes corrode and the horn goes toot toot pop.

Try a new horn on it before you go removing the airbag etc, they're about £6.50.
