how are people charging there ehybrids, i have looked into home wall boxes but none support the cupra formentor yet, neither do the government grants.
Thank you for the reply. I suggest you speak to an installer / supplier. I used Smart Home Chargers. There are other considerations and they can advise and help. These considerations include, connectivity to broadband or WiFi and the availability and signal strength as this is how the smart control, updates and features are derived. In my case I have no WiFi and hardly any mobile signal from EE. I wish there was a process flow diagram with simple “route / choices” to a conclusion. To get this far has taken hours of searching and I haven’t got a charger! Now the sales experience is over “The Reality”?I would be interested to see how you get on as I am in a similar situation but I live in a flat and have underground parking so no smart meter for me and need to negotiate with free holder too
Well far so good as we are with octopus energy already! just booked a smart meter install on line should be installed on 22nd July fingers crossed goes smoothly there might be a few issues but hopefully if they are there they will just get on with itBest of luck with the smart meter bit. I got quoted 09.08.21 by EDF. Decided to change to Octopus and was accepted. But they will not progress the smart meter bit until you become a customer, for me that 05.07.21. In the meantime decided to try and get the charger installed! Was advised by PODPOINT to do nothing until smart meter installed, then to contact them. By the way the Formentor doesn’t appear on THIER website as they only list the exact same list as the vehicles approved on the Gov site! You can create an account on PP by lying about your car (I claimed to own an Audi with TYPE2 charger) but you cant progress beyond that as the installer undertakes to application for you and claims the grant. The 2 part form requires vehicle specific information including VIN.
So I went to smart home chargers - excellent but during the “screening” phase I was asked to confirm the strength of my WiFi and or Mobile signal as this helps determine which smart charger would be most applicable (I knew nothing about this either) as this is the way in which the charger gets its updates and derives its smart features. The interaction between the Smart Meter (Supply) and the charger delivers the correct EV tariff at the right time when the vehicle is plugged in. To add to the frustration I live in a valley!!!
To confirm 10 amps is fineFrom what I've read the car draws 10 amps which a household wiring SHOULD be fine with.
The Oehm charger is the one I'd go for. It links with Octopus Energy to charge at the cheapest rates.
If you have an exterior socket put in, hopefully it should go directly into the fuse board with a fresh wire. My cable from toughleads has an in line rcd and the wiring of the house is on an rcd too.
I have been looking into it as well. The Audi E-TRON got approval for the grant last Wednesday and they released the car in the UK in mid March. The Formentor was released end of May so if you take that as your time line, it should get approved for the grant in August. Cupra currently recommend Pod-Point, but there design is bulky and has no method to stop someone else using it unless you buy there key lock (which cannot be retrofitted after installation. VAG’s Elli chargers (the wall box you see in all their advertising) is not going to be available in the UK until some point in 2022 and it is linked to buying your home electricity through them as well. From what I have researched I will probably buy a wallbox pulsar plus through Costco, but I am waiting for the grant, but I have the luxury of being able to wait as my 245 is a factory build and is not arriving until September. Using a wall charger is just quicker (and safer if you have old household wiring/fuse board) than using the 3 pin plug option.
