I'm using an extension lead at the moment...
It can go under my door. Make sure the wire is not wound as it will get hot.

I just bought the below...

I have been looking into it as well. The Audi E-TRON got approval for the grant last Wednesday and they released the car in the UK in mid March. The Formentor was released end of May so if you take that as your time line, it should get approved for the grant in August. Cupra currently recommend Pod-Point, but there design is bulky and has no method to stop someone else using it unless you buy there key lock (which cannot be retrofitted after installation. VAG’s Elli chargers (the wall box you see in all their advertising) is not going to be available in the UK until some point in 2022 and it is linked to buying your home electricity through them as well. From what I have researched I will probably buy a wallbox pulsar plus through Costco, but I am waiting for the grant, but I have the luxury of being able to wait as my 245 is a factory build and is not arriving until September. Using a wall charger is just quicker (and safer if you have old household wiring/fuse board) than using the 3 pin plug option.

From what I've read the car draws 10 amps which a household wiring SHOULD be fine with.

The Oehm charger is the one I'd go for. It links with Octopus Energy to charge at the cheapest rates.

If you have an exterior socket put in, hopefully it should go directly into the fuse board with a fresh wire. My cable from toughleads has an in line rcd and the wiring of the house is on an rcd too.

Hi I took ownership of my VZ2 hybrid on 24th June. You are correct about the vehicle not being on the Gov list. But. You need to check a few things first.
Is the infrastructure able to support EV charging in your area I believe its a DNO. Next you will need to look at the best tariff to suit your needs. I used USWITCH who were very helpful and had plenty of time to answer and deal with my many questions. I chose Octopus in favour of my current supplier EDF. Service is due to be taken over 5th. July. Once they have the account the other bits can follow, The smart meter to derive the tariff and stopping you having to get out of bed to plug the car in and in the case of Octopus The EV tariff I think will suit me best - GO.

Then I looked at potential Box suppliers, I chose PODPOINT Registered and set up an account, I simply told the set up my car was an Audi (you can amend the car type later). First morning went to Tesco and plugged in for my free charge. However, Charge would take 4 hours, Car Park limited to 1.5 hrs. So that didn’t work. I am driving the car in Hybrid mode. I haven’t tried using an extension lead from the “window” as it present to much of a risk to deliveries etc. I cant get definitive info about using leads. On the supplied 5m cable there are signs with red crosses through the lead symbols!!

Further research sent me to SmartHomeCharging.co.uk. They have been very helpful and I submitted a request to complete an online survey. They will review the survey and advise, you should be aware that the installation could involve other cost if your wiring doesnt meet current regulations. I will post more details as things progress. So far buying the car has been the easy bit including delivery which was very fast less than 2weeks! Compared to my SEAT Ateca which took 8 months due to WLTP process.

I would be interested to see how you get on as I am in a similar situation but I live in a flat and have underground parking so no smart meter for me and need to negotiate with free holder too

My car comes on Tuesday, but for my previous Kuga PHEV, I brought a waterproof plug socket to go outside, and used a standard 3 pin plug for inside with a 13 amp fuse. It’s never going to be a fast charging car, even with a proper charger, so I’ll continue to just plug it in from that. Great for the lawnmower out front too.

Unfortunately no power sockets in Garage but meter is only 6 metres from my space so should be able to tap in there.

Thank you for the reply. I suggest you speak to an installer / supplier. I used Smart Home Chargers. There are other considerations and they can advise and help. These considerations include, connectivity to broadband or WiFi and the availability and signal strength as this is how the smart control, updates and features are derived. In my case I have no WiFi and hardly any mobile signal from EE. I wish there was a process flow diagram with simple “route / choices” to a conclusion. To get this far has taken hours of searching and I haven’t got a charger! Now the sales experience is over “The Reality”?

Thank you for the reply. But as a group of customers do we not have any clout? Whilst £350 is not the issue compared with the cost of the vehicle. It’s the impact on all of the other components to get it all working. I hate wasting money and I think we should be able to claim the money from CUPRA . It’s all of these additional costs that weren’t easily identified at point of purchase that start to take the edge off the experience and loosing control to lots of separate components to bring it all together in a timescale that is quick. Electricity, Change of Supplier (Tariffs), Smart Meter Provision, Communications WiFi or Mobile signal, Safe temporary leads etc etc)

Yes they was covering there ars* as was saying web site never said it blah blah and dealer would not have told you about this.

but can be claimed at a later date as long as you don’t get it installed. Going to see if I can get smart meter installed first other wise if electric is at full price not going to save that much anyway

Best of luck with the smart meter bit. I got quoted 09.08.21 by EDF. Decided to change to Octopus and was accepted. But they will not progress the smart meter bit until you become a customer, for me that 05.07.21. In the meantime decided to try and get the charger installed! Was advised by PODPOINT to do nothing until smart meter installed, then to contact them. By the way the Formentor doesn’t appear on THIER website as they only list the exact same list as the vehicles approved on the Gov site! You can create an account on PP by lying about your car (I claimed to own an Audi with TYPE2 charger) but you cant progress beyond that as the installer undertakes to application for you and claims the grant. The 2 part form requires vehicle specific information including VIN.
So I went to smart home chargers - excellent but during the “screening” phase I was asked to confirm the strength of my WiFi and or Mobile signal as this helps determine which smart charger would be most applicable (I knew nothing about this either) as this is the way in which the charger gets its updates and derives its smart features. The interaction between the Smart Meter (Supply) and the charger delivers the correct EV tariff at the right time when the vehicle is plugged in. To add to the frustration I live in a valley!!!

Hi...I think I mentioned this before but have a look at what myenergi have to offer. Their Zappi charger works with Octopus Go as well and it uses a hub to connect to the internet for smarts which is far more reliable as it will eliminate WiFi notspots.

Also if you go full electric later and are interested in solar panels...then Zappi can be very clever and charge when you have extra power only.

No commission or anything but this is what I am getting quoted and starting the process shortly.

This is on a Skoda Superb iV by the way...long story.

Well 17th July and still no Smart Meter! Octopus did take over the account on 5/07/21, but have been unable to provide a date to install as they have a problem getting me a date from their installer AES. I have now also been told that once the Smart Meter is installed that want 2 weeks of data at 1/5hr readings before they will asign the Go Tarif! I am still getting quotes for the wall box. In the mean time I am using a lead purchased from tough leads for £50 which incorporated an inline RCD for protection and that’s working fine apart from the Tariff charges.

In my haste to progress to a Wall Charger I have been reticent to commit in anticipation of an announcement that the CUPRA will get OLEV approval?
I have given up all hope of this as the Gov.uk site “To be eligible for the grant, cars must cost less than £35,000. This is the recommended retail price (RRP), and includes VAT and delivery fees”.
My VZ2 would NOT qualify. I am so disappointed at the amount of time and effort it has taken to get NOWHERE! Let alone to join the REVOLUTION.

That is a good point about the cost of the Formentor. I did not think of that. Hopefully octopus are fitting our smart meter on Thursday that was quite simple just changed tariff and book a slot at same time

To confirm 10 amps is fine

your standard plugtop is rated at 13 amps so no issues plugging into houshold sockets.
